What's the big deal? The stuff washed ashore, I believe that means it's free for the taking. "Jetsam" is the term, isn't it? Is there a maritime lawyer in the house?

Apparently you're mistaken: Under the Merchant Shipping Act 1995, it is an offence for people to remove items from a wreck if they conceal or keep possession of cargo and refuse to surrender it, police said.

Well, actually, I just heard (and the article sorta says so, too) that you really only have to register whatever goods you take from the beach with the authorities so that the rightful owner can reclaim it. Now, I don't know about those motorcycles, but I highly doubt that some Chinese company is going to send a representative reclaimng boxes of diapers and parts of steering wheels.
