i don't know if this story has been posted before, it's about a week old, but now there's video. when people like me say it's your actions rather than your job that earn's you respect this is what we are talking about. just, wow :eek:.

It's not a rescue when you're picking up a dead body.

It's just a waste of resources... what if that helicopter had been shot down with all hands? Was that a worthwhile risk to pick up what was essentially just a slab of dead meat dressed in a uniform?

As much as I hate to say it, I agree with you. I was a career firefighter, and our golden rule was that we will greatly risk our life to save a life, risk our life some to save the property, but will not risk our lives for a recovery effort. On the other hand, we always told each other "if you go, we go". Either we all went home together or not.

Just that being in a career where I have had to save others, I know how they felt.

except that they didn't know he was dead, they just knew he was missing. i still think it was incredibly brave and probably worthy of a medal especially for the people hanging onto the wing stubs.
