What are you thoughts on this?

I am eating some right now and it's hotter then I remembered.

I wouldn't mind trying some of that on a nice toasted sun-dried tomato bagel.

I sure would like to taste it. Does it include gelatine, though?

Jalapeno jelly is second to godliness.

Or was that cleanliness?

Goes down nice. My sister-in-law's habanero jelly goes down nice as well.

I like it in small doses. I used to work in the Mexican restaurant where we served it with mini-chimichangas stuffed with cream cheese. That was some good shit.

It's not too bad. But I really prefer jalapeƱo-cheddar-refried beans-rice jelly, when you can get it.

How's it rate on the Scoville scale?

I would guess a six or a seven at most.

So pretty weak then?

Maybe they should use scotch bonnets instead ;)

it's not mean to burn your mouth, just be a bit spicey....I use it on my chicken enchiladas.

I make it in my kitchen.

besides it's made from Jalepenos not real peppers like habeneros (which I have made jam from before and wow, that's yummy.....)

Surely what you've tried was more than that? 6-7 SHUs is nothing at all - around the heat of a bell pepper.

Uh...no, that's the heat of a jalapeno.

Nope. Jalapenos come in between 2500 and 8000 SHUs, and average about 4500. Bell peppers are in the 0-10 range.

I always find it amusing how people are so enamoured of a plant that defends itself by causing pain in its predators. The active ingredient, capsaicin, acts directly on the nerves that sense pain. And yet, from an obscure origin in the mountains of Bolivia, the lowly peppers have swept around the world and taken a place in just about every cuisine.

But don't get me wrong, I love the little blighters, too. Always grow serranoes every summer, with a couple of kinds of sweet peppers, too.

I used to work at a factory making the stuff. I can't eat it anymore. Do you have any idea how much vinegar goes into it? ::blech::

I want some!

Once I ate at a restaurant that provided the table with jalepeno relish to put on the corn chips. It was thoroughly delicious and I imagine the jelly would be much like that in terms of taste. What do you put it on, tortilla chips?

Just about whatever you like, though I'm not sure this would go well on chips. It's more like what you spread on toast and muffins at breakfast.

Hmm... that could be interesting. If I ever see any in the store I'll pick some up with a pack of english muffins.

I've been using the habanero jelly much like a mint jelly sauce for meats, at my SIL's recommendation.
