I miss Pope John Paul II

I am honestly speachless.

You miss Pope JPII? You can't get excited about the new one?

You act like the pope is the quarterback of your favorite football team...a pope's a pope...nothing to get excited about ever, much less miss one after he's gone.

Say what you want about the Roman Catholic Church, but Pope John Paul II was an awesome Pope. He was like the grandfather that you could go over on a Sunday afternoon for crackers and kool-aid. He really did do alot for the world and the Roman Catholic Church, and I do miss him. As for Pope Benedict XVI, eh it's kind of hard to get excited about him. I mean I know he has big shoes to fill what with following Pope John Paul II, but he's not filling them well. Maybe he just needs more time.

Benedict just needs a bigger hat. It's a well established fact the Pope gets his mighty awesome powers from the miter.

Seconded. Popes tend to be dramatically overrated.

i was told your messing around with him

Edit warp to 5

Nothing important about a pope..

Yea, I mean being in charge of a religion that has 1.1 billion people is just small stuff.

I think Pope Benedict just needs to do something dramatic and impressive to get the people's attention. Maybe build a Death Star. :D

Say what you want about the Roman Catholic Church, but Pope John Paul II was an awesome Pope.

Do you mean how he carried on the tradition of condemning abortion _and_ the use of condoms, even in AIDS-infested countries? How reinforced the condemnation of homosexuals and transsexuals? How he still never wanted to let women in on church offices?

Yes, he's done some unusual and laudable things for a Catholic Pope, but he's still just a Catholic Pope. No reason to get all weak in the knees.

I'm a heathen, but I still think John Paul II was a great pope. It has nothing to do with his mitre either, but his strength of character. Plus he fought Nazis. (pre-Pope hat)

I haven't liked a pope yet.

And jolt really needs to stop the time-warping.

Religion really isn't important.

I don't really see how you can miss any pope, JPII most definitely included. Let's just recall that your grandpa-sunday-afternoon-tea figure vehemently promoted the spread of AIDS and extreme poverty throughout his tenure. Not really so warm and fuzzy after all.

Silly peoples! JP II was awesome in the same way that the Queen is awesome - no-one can quite place why it is that they rock so hard, but we all know the world is/would be worse off without them. Maybe it is the hats...

edit: Btw this is the Queen of England I'm tlaking about here - the present one.

Who likes the queen? She's such a stuck-up, old, and frumpy thing! At least JPII showed some energy.

I'm a way better Pope than JP Version 2.0

But he made a great aneristic avatar.

Liz 2 would kick John Paul's arse! Even if he wasn't dead! And even if he could get out of the wheelchair! And even if he had George Ringo encouraging him in a cheerleader outfit!

I tend to disagree, so did the Kremlin when they had the Bulgarians shoot John Paul II.

If no one can think of a reason why we should really miss John Paul II, here's a good one: he managed to successfully NOT piss off the MidEast. He was a diplomat. We didn't need to put the Pope on a Don Cherry 7-minute delay because he was liable to insult the Frogs... err, I mean the French.

I found JP II's views, and frankly the views of pretty much every pope, on subjects of women, gays, contraception and the spread of HIV to be hopelessly outdated and, in the end, quite harmful.
