So, last night I was at a fairly packed party, about forty or so people about the ground floor of this house, most everyone with a beer in hand. Well, I was sitting there chattering away about something irrelevant when I see some people start to light something up, I saw a Marlboro pack out, so I assumed that was what was going up. No one else at the party was smoking, and the people lighting up didn't even know the hosts particularly well. I thought it was inconsiderate but I kept my mouth shut.

About a minute later I start to smell the smoke, and it was definitely...herbal. One of the hosts catches the scent and goes over and tells them to go and smoke outside or somewhere else. The smokers get pissed about it, and protest, but eventually consent.

I mean, c'mon. If you're at someone else's place and no one else is smoking anything, why the hell would you light up in the middle of the room. Espescially on a night when cops are crawling the neighborhood.

No.

Lighten up.

Anyway, I would consider that rude. And by a "herbal" scent, you saying what I think you are saying? Also, looks like some time warps are happening again, Fassigen has the first post on my screen...

I had people smoking up galore last night, but they all took it outside, same as they would with a cigarette. To me it's an issue of smoking inside, not smoking in and of itself.

My view essentially.

It wasn't that they were smoking, it's that they were smoking in a crowded room, at someone else's home, and they were the only one's doing it.

Lighten up.

No.

Brevity serves me well this evening, it would seem.

The essence of truth, to be sure.

I guess people just assume that smoking is okay at parties. Especially weed. What next, no drinking and no talking? Sounds like fun.

Agreed. Its kind of the risk you take when you agree to host a party. Better to tell the guests before hand or something.

(I imagine getting pissed and puking on the floor is rude too)

Slip some pills into their drinks next time, that'll teach'em.

It hasn't been okay here for quite a while. I'm not sure exactly when it happened, but it can't be more than five years or so...suddenly everyone I knew...hell, even people I DIDN'T know, started going outside to smoke, without anyone even having to ask them to. So yeah...someone lighting up in your house now is...odd. Unless they ask to hotbox in your shower.

Yes, it is, but, if you are invited to my house (a no smoking zone) and light up (herb or otherwise), I will feel free to kick you out.

I know that's what I do when I smoke at parties. I always go out back to light up. It's never crossed my mind to smoke indoors, always just go outside.
Well it makes sense in other ways too...if the cops come to your door because of a noise complaint or something, it doesn't help to have the smell of pot waft out in thick coiling rolls with the RCs standing on your welcome mat.

Espescially with the way that leases work around Columbus. Smoking indoors is extremely frowned upon, and will negatively impact what you receive back from your security deposit.

Maybe they started to see if anyone else wanted to. Whenever I smoke its never planned, it usually starts with some guy lighting up a blunt and passing it around. I'm sure they weren't trying to be rude.

They may not be trying to be rude, but normally it's polite to either ask first, or take it outside.
