Smonkeyfill!

Rhaomi

No, I haven't suddenly abandoned all respect for spelling, and I didn't forget her name, either. It's just that "smonkeyfill" is more singable than "Smunkeeville".

What the hell am I prattling on about, you ask? Good question. The answer lies here (http://www.sr.se/P1/src/sing/index.htm?key=2BJAJBJL#).

This cool little program takes any piece of text and renders it into a musical Frankenstein, stitching together words and syllables from various pop songs to sound out your message. It's vocabulary is surprisingly deep, although you often have to alter spelling to a more phonetic form to get the correct pronunciation or inflection (for instance, to get "NationStates General", you'd type in "nationstates jinoroll". :p

As a demonstration, I went ahead and found the best ways to pronounce the names of 31 forum regulars -- and the results are quite amusing. To hear the name, just copy the appropriate transliteration into the text box and click the start button. Try not to play too much text at once, though, or else you'll seriously slow down the app.

I especially liked the way Smunkee, DCD, Fass, WYTYG, Ruffy, PM, Steel Butterfly, Ifreann, TBD, Kiryu-shi, and Minoriteeburg turned out. Pretty catchy...

Anyway, here are all the names I got:

Bodies Without Organs: badies without organs
Cannot think of a name: cannot think of a name
Congo--Kinshasa: congo kinshasa
Darknovae: darknofi
Dobbsworld: dabsworld
Drunk commies deleted: drunk commies delydead
Fascist Dominion: fasist doughminion
Fassigen: fasagain
HotRodia: hotrowdya
Ifreann: iffreeon
Il Ruffino: il rowfineno
Johnny B Goode: jonknee be good
JuNii: jumpwhoneed
Kanabia: canabea
Kiryu-shi: keyryyou she
Kryozerkia: cryoserkeya
Lunatic Goofballs: lohnadick gofballs
Minoriteeburg: minoritybird
Pure Metal: pure mettell
Rhaomi: rowme
Smunkeeville: smonkeyfill
Soviestan: sofiesstand
Steel Butterfly: steel butterfly
Sumamba Buwhan: somamba bowon
Tactical Grace: tacticcall grace
The Beautiful Darkness: the beautiful darkness
The Black Forrest: the black forest
The Most Glorious Hack: the most gloryus hatk
The South Islands: the south islands
Upward Thrust: upword trust
Whereyouthinkyougoing: where you think you going

If you want to make a message of you own (http://www.sr.se/P1/src/sing/index.htm?key=2BJAJBJL#), keep in mind that a handful of letters are for some reason not represented. So if you want to, say, make a "v" sound, use an "f" instead. It should be easier to type out a message than a name, as well, since the program's more geared towards reproducing whole words than individual syllables.

Oh, and you can't link directly to the sound file, so just reproduce whatever you typed in here.

Enjoy (http://www.sr.se/P1/src/sing/index.htm?key=2BJAJBJL#)...

Try guessing which songs they lifted different words from. For instance, it sounds like the word "faces" comes from the song "People are strange" by The Doors.

Oh, cool it. There are tens of thousands of users here, and hundreds of "regulars". It is so nice to be forgetable. Means no annoying nicknames or enemies on the forum. I tell you, people like Fassigan and DCD should try to fade in the backround. It hath its benefits.

Then again, drawing attention to myself my not be the smartest tactic so forget I said anything. :p

But that would make the forum so much less enjoyable for the rest of us.

I'm happy for the regulars who still contribute to the forum. It seems like a lot of the people I used to love reading (like H N Fiddlebottoms or Melkor Unchained) aren't posting much anymore.

That's okay, Sel Appa, neither am I.

My name: Kai-rohn-ee-ah. I would imagine. It's how I pronounce it, though trying that in it didn't work.
Now, I left your name off the list because I just couldn't get it to work. The program for some reason cannot pronounce r's (unless they're part of another word), and it keeps pronouncing the "one" in your name like the number. So, instead of "kai-row-nee-ah" it kept giving me "kuh-ee-*buzz*-won-uh". Not exactly pleasing to the ear...

What's with all the insecurity around here all of a sudden? It's not like I was making out a will. I just needed a list of names. And the majority of those names came from the forum Members list, reordered based on postcount.

So if you want to, say, make a "v" sound, use an "f" instead. It should be easier to type out a message than a name, as well, since the program's more geared towards reproducing whole words than individual syllables.

Oh, and you can't link directly to the sound file, so just reproduce whatever you typed in here.

Glitziness comes out great on that thing :p

I'd've preferred "Snob's World", if it's all the same to you...

(just kidding)

Thanks for the thumbs-up.

About 99% of NSG didn't get put on the list.

The list is not something cool to be on.

It started out as a bunch of random user names Rhaomi could remember and was whittled down by throwing out those that didn't work with the website.

I think its some inherent human trait that we just love being on a list of some sort.

Anyways...

I was trying to figure out what songs words came from. I got "Dark" is from Thriller, "Ass" is from David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust (The line is actually eyes, but it does sound like ass.) Also, "You" is from you shook me all night long.
