I knew Bush was unpopular, but damn...

Apparently--and this is according to a Fox News poll, which is nearly as Bush friendly as Rasmussen Reports is--he's less popular than Cheney now (http://electioncentral.tpmcafe.com/blog/electioncentral/2007/jan/18/fox_poll_more_americans_dislike_bush_than_cheney). There's a link to a pdf at that link above.

A new poll has found that the American people dislike President Bush more than they dislike ... Dick Cheney. The poll — by Fox News, of all people — finds that President Bush's unfavorable rating is 58%, while Cheney's unpopularity rating is five points lower at 53%. Bush can, however, still take some small solace from the fact that his approval rating is one point higher than Cheney's; the President's is 38%, while the VP's is 37%.

Meanwhile, here are a couple of other numbers that are striking for a Fox poll: Only 39% of Americans view the GOP favorably, and 49% view them unfavorably. Meanwhile, a majority of respondents — 51% — have a favorable view of Dems, compared to only 35% who have an unfavorable view of what Fox likes to call the "Democrat Party."
I never thought I'd see the day that Cheney was more popular than Bush.

Dick is only more popular than Bush because they don't know what Dick would do as President. There's a reason his name is Dick.

You just made me realise something:
In the USA Dick is now more popular than Bush.

Is this a sign of the gayness-isation of America?
Too much soy in the food supply?
Too many single-mother families?
The impending Apocalypse?

I'm getting worried.

Man, Cheney's popularity has skyrocketed. I remember when it was at 17%.

Let's hope it returns there.

Yes. Ten if he just hit him. The face area was worth about twenty additional bonus points, giving him enough to level up.

Did you read the pdf?
has some great questions in it:
21. Do you think most Democrats want the Iraq plan President Bush announced last week to succeed and lead to a stable Iraq or do they want it to fail and for him to have to withdraw U.S. troops in defeat?
SCALE: 1. Most Democrats want Bush plan to succeed 2. Most Democrats want Bush plan to fail. 3. (Some want one thing, some another) 4. (Don’t know)
Not into leading questions much, are they?

Wonder what angle Fox will take on these results:
Most people despise Bush
or
Democrats want US Army to fail

hmmm....

In all honesty, I like Cheney a lot more than Bush. He's a lot more intelligent and a lot more capable of controlling things and pulling strings within the political machinery. Not to mention he doesn't come across anywhere near as religious right as Bush does.

So if Faux says Dubya unfavorable rating is 58%, should be assume it's at least 10% higher just to be sure?

I really, REALLY hope you're speaking in relative terms here, because I would not want Dick Cheney in control of anything, anymore than I'd want Bush in control of anything.

Of course. I don't like either of them, but if I had to choose I would go with Cheney. A government run by corporations will always be better than a government run by theocrats.

And still they supported the Democrats overwhelmingly. Damn.
But what other answer could one give?
Say yes, and the Dems are anti-US troops.
Say no, and the Dems support Bush.

And of course damn near every gopper out there will say the Dems hate Bush and want to see him fail, so that's nearly 50% of the total vote already. It was a question that was worded solely to produce an overwhemingly negative image of the Dems.
And this from 'fair and balanced' Fox. The only centrist news outlet in the US, according to so many NS'ers.

It's a question I'd put in the same league as, "When did you stop beating your wife?"

Well, supposively Bush doesn't pay attention to polls and could care less that he is unpopular. Since he doesn't have to worry about any more elections I can certainly see why he would think this. Then again, if he pisses off Americans too much in the next two years, unless the Dems pick a complete incompetant Dems will have an almost sure victory in '08.

I sense a lot of cognitive dissonance in that statement, when compared to your sig.

Considering that saying "I hate Bush" is essentially saying "I hate the policies and actions and statements of the Bush Administration" it's rather difficult to say that you like Cheney and hate Bush, or vice versa.

They're both involved in fomenting whatever comes out of the White House.

And "Screw you" isn't a viable option, either.

Cheney always struck me as a fun guy to have around, and since he's only Vice President he hasn't had a lot of opportunity to disabuse me of that notion.

Plus, he's fishing buddies with a friend of mine.

Bush, on the other hand, has been a lousy economic steward, which I think is the President's #1 job. And he sucks at it.

It's not that--it's the fact that you like Cheney, but have a sig which talks about enjoying freedom. Cognitive dissonance because Cheney has been the most vocal in the administration about taking freedoms away.
