More weird news from my hometown.

police are warning the public and area businesses to beware of counterfeit $50 bills being passed in the community.

On Jan. 13, police took a report of a fake $50 being passed at Hollywood Video. On Wednesday, officers took reports of counterfeit $50s from Cost Cutters and Mr. Movies.

Police Lt. Shane Kron said police have taken five reports of counterfeit money since Tuesday, including three reports from banks, which showed several businesses at Coral Ridge Mall had been hit.

The serial numbers on the counterfeited $50 bills reported to police are EG1554877OB and GB31852521A.

Citizens and retailers should carefully examine $50 bills presented as payment. A $50 bill bearing one of the targeted serial numbers should not be accepted, police said. Police said all $50 bills should be examined carefully.

Immediately report any counterfeit or suspicious bill to law enforcement.

I removed my city's name.

You are supposed to memorize those serial numbers, apparently.

If I ever end up getting a reasonably good counterfeit bill as change or something I'll probably just pass it off as real currency. If I turn it over to the police I'm just out fifty dollars, right? I might as well try to get my money's worth.

You're not ashamed of Coralville are you? I grant it's no big town like Iowa City, but it's still very nice.

Best place is late at night in a busy bar or nightclub. Bartenders are too tired, stressed and busy to bother looking at every note they get.

Not that I'm advocating doing such a thing. I'm just giving it as an example.

Rofl...yeah always just give the basic summary if you don;t want to give your town away. I made the same mistake once myself, but only to one person. :p

Yes, yes, I've seen those numbers. I recognize the one, and the five. I'm not sure but there seems to be a seven as well. And maybe a couple of twos.

I know for a fact that I've used a fake note. A £20.

Let's face it, I got it without realising.

At some point I noticed that something wasn't right, and realised it was a fake.

I couldn't afford to lose £20, but I figured a club could, so I used it one night when I was out. Doesn't bother me in the slightest. If they find it and realise it's fake then it doesn't really matter to anyone. But if I'd handed it in I'd have been £20 down and short on cash for the week.
