What do you wear...

Was the person close to you?
Then I'm going to go with.... no.

Unless he's being buried in a country club....?

Damn time warp.

A more informal funeral would demand nice khaki pants, as well as an oxford shirt, a step up would demand that, plus a tie. Another step up would demand a suit.

Traditionally, a black suit and tie. It depends on a number of factors, of course; some funerals might be more casual, especially if that was in line with the person's attitude in life.

I would say stay away from bright colors regardless, just to be on the safe side.

.. to a funeral?

Are pants and a polo shirt acceptable?

Wear something that looks nice and doesn't grab attention. Blacks, dark blues, grays are all fine.

Well, if you don't want to feel under-dressed?

Remember the rule: It's better to overdress and take the extra things off than to underdress and be unable to change anything.

whatever you think is appropriate.

if you think shorts and a tank top is appropriate... then go ahead.

I always dress like I would for a job interview, grey or black suit.

I would guess that it would be okay to wear khaki slacks a dress shirt and a tie, though.

as long as they're subdued colours, i don't see why not.

Some funerals i've seen had their buddies showing up in shorts and tank tops. Because the person who died loved surfing so they wore their "uniform" so to speak.

That's what I felt as well; if you feel that dressing in a particular way, maybe in reference to what they loved in life, would honor them more, you should go with it. After all, a funeral is meant to honor the person who passed, and I would say that dressing in a manner that reflects their life might be appropriate.

Depends on the funeral. I've never attended a funeral that falls on the informal side of the spectrum, so I don't know what would be appropriate for that. At the funerals I've been to, the most a guy could get away with was dress khakis, collared shirt, tie and blazer.

Frankly, who cares? If it were MY funeral, I couldn't care less if you went naked. It would be like a Greek funeral, where my money would pay for refreshments and games. It would be a party, nothing sad. Why on Earth would I want people to be sad? And if there was no-one to inherit from me, ALL my money would make just one big party. A big screen TV, and baloons, free booze (although I personally don't drink), snacks, and video games for those who wanted them. Then I would get the cheapest way of desposing of my body possible, so as not to infringe on the fun (such as REALLY cheap cremation). Any life insurance would also be added to the fun. Maybe everyone there would get $100 to play a MASSIVE poker game with.
And remember, I wouldn't want anywhere near the amount of money spent on burying me as most people.
Who thinks this is a better idea? Il Ruffino?

polo shirt and pants are fine. go with dark subdued colors. sit up back. attending is more important than what you wear.
