Even the Methodists are turning on Bush now

Wow. Bush is really getting down to the barest bones of his base these days. (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070118/ap_on_re_us/bush_library)
DALLAS - A group of Methodist ministers from across the nation launched an online petition drive Thursday urging Southern Methodist University to stop trying to land George W. Bush's presidential library.
The petition, on a newly created Web site, http://www.protectsmu.org, says that "as United Methodists, we believe that the linking of his presidency with a university bearing the Methodist name is utterly inappropriate."
"Methodists have a long history of social conscience, so questions about the conduct of this president are very concerning," said one of the petition's organizers, the Rev. Andrew J. Weaver of New York, who graduated from SMU's Perkins School of Theology....
Some SMU professors have opposed Bush's foreign policy, mainly the war in
Iraq. Some faculty members also have complained that the library complex's think tank dedicated to the philosophy of the Bush administration would hurt the school's reputation.
The university administration is saying that SMU's reputation will be strengthened by the addition of the My Pet Goat Memorial Wing, but I have my doubts, personally.

ever see what happens to the psyche of a man absolutly self assured and convinced everyone agrees with him when he confronts the reality that everybody has turned against him?
Me neither, but it'll be an interesting 2 years.

I doubt he ever confronts it. My prediction is that he'll leave office in 2009 convinced he's one of the greatest presidents ever, and then will return to Crawford to drink himself into a stupor every night until he dies.

If you really know Methodists, you'll know that it takes an awful lot to get them to take an unequivocal stand on any issue. Hell, when the issue of gay marriage came up, the total response was something along the lines of mumbling and gesturing towards a window. I certainly remember that, as that was when I was active in a church.
I think that some Methodist pastors have come out against Bush is a pretty damn strong condemnation of his policies, because of the intentionally apolitical nature of most Methodist churches.

Too true. And why are they even bothering with a library for him? The man is not a reader, by his own and his handlers' admission, and his administration has been so secretive that I can't imagine them releasing any papers to go into the library.

It will be full of Curious George and Dr. Seuss, with some coloring books and connect-the-dots thrown in for variety.

It won't be a library so much as it will be a monument to the most inept president ever, and with any luck, it'll wind up the same way the statue of Rameses does in the Shelley poem "Ozymandias."

For this they need to build a wing?
*shrugs* moderation has never been in this man's vocabulary.

if they set it up right it will be the most used presidential library out there.
all the scholars will want to read his papers to try to figure out what the fuck happened and why we got into this mess.

I don't think Bush writes anything. That has been part of the problem of trying to determine his IQ. Lack of papers. Well, except for when he wrote that he wanted to go potty.

No, but I'm sure a few banannas and a poke or two from the pointy stick could have him get it in next to no time...

If there's one thing you can count on with this library, it's that it will be set up in such a way so as to obscure what the fuck happened and why we got into this mess. It's been the standing policy of this entire administration.

How about this fable:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Emperors_New_Clothes
I think it sums Bush up quite succinctly:
The two tailors are Cheney and Rummy.
The 'new clothes' are Bush's Iraq strategy.
No-one would tell him the strategy was terrible until the little boy (could be lots of people, but lets just use The Iraq commission) pointed out the non-existance of his 'clothes'.
And now even though everyone is laughing at Bush, and he can hear them, he's still insists on continuing with his procession, rather than admit his mistakes and stupidity.
