Do you think the PM of Iraq is the right man for the job? Do you think if he gets American support he can stabilize the country. I personally think he's not up for the job, though I'm not sure who is.

Are we skipping States 51 and 52?

Probably no one can do the job, but al-Maliki has repeatedly demonstrated he can't.

He has repeatedly shown the wrong attitude over and over again. Saying things like he only took the post because he felt oblidged to... that's a very bad attitude.

I'm sure there must be some Iraqis out there who actually care about their country enough to stick to the job and try and free the country from the violence it faces. Unfortunately, these sort of people don't have a very long life expectancy compared to the factions that simply want to sell the nation out to Iran or Saudi Arabia.

He's pretty rubbish, to be honest. Every time I see Condi Rice fly there and have to listen to him, a part of my brain says "wouldn't it just be awesome if she capped him, live on TV for the whole world".

It's what honestly needs to happen. He's unfit for the purpose, his government hasn't done a single bloody thing at all other than organise a few police deathsquads and he doesn't seem at all popular.

Get al-Sadr in power. Yes, it'll become Iran 2, but that's a whole hell of a lot better than what's going on at the moment.

I feel that the new plan for Iraq turns al-Maliki into a scapegoat. If it works, Bush gets the credit. If it doesn't the Bush administration dumps the responsibility on the PM for not doing enough. He's pretty much screwed and has already said he wished he weren't Prime Minister.

Yeah, the White House has been spinning this to make the Iraqis take the fall for a little while already. I can see it now, ex-President Bush being interviewed in 2010, saying, "It's a shame, really, we did everything we could for those people but their government just wasn't up to the task of rebuilding a stable democracy."
