Iran warns it's ready for nuke standoff

So much for peaceful nuclear ambitions...Your thoughts?
I wonder what Israel's response to his will be...

There seems to be a semantic difference over "nuke standoff" and "standoff over the nuclear issue".
One implies a set of ready nuclear weapons on each side, and the other does not.
It sounds to me like the latter, in which case there's only one side with the nukes.
Not that Iran isn't trying to enrich enough uranium to do it - a far, far easier task than enriching plutonium for a bomb - but we have to wait until they test one to say they have one.
Once they test one, they won't be able to deny it, and neither will anyone else.
I really don't think Israel will wait for the test...I can't really blame them either...

I'm not sure denouncing the critics at home over the nuclear policy is such a good idea either...wasn't the Supreme Leader a critic?

Quoting the post 3 minutes before it's posted. I'm impressed :p
And what Eve said. There's a huge difference between "nuke standoff" (think cold war) and this.
This is a response to the aircraft carriers the US is sending towards Iranian shores... Nothing unexpected.

I'm still mind boggled on how that happened. I thought I was going crazy at first.

Ready to nuke you say? I also read in the Guardian some time ago that Israel was secretly planning a nuclear strike on Iran itself, so there is little irrationality that if someone wishes to nuke you, you just sit there and not make nuclear threats yourself. It's a dead-end situation, a :headbang:, but can we really change the fuckers on both sides? Nope, we can just sit and watch, praying that they don't have the nuclear card in their hand.

Forgive me if I don't start quaking in my undersized (in fact they hurt like hell) boots. I know I ought to be terrified to death, or at least that's what the media is telling me (and the media is always right). However, I just can't get that fear stuff going when I hear Iran's President bluster.
He just got his ass handed to him in an election, his country's only source of income is running dry, and he's managed to get himself placed under sanctions by the UN. He's just trying to get attention. Ignore him and the sanctions and political dischord shut him up.

What Eve said.
Oh, dear. You're aware that this statement is coming from the same man that just received a massive backlash from the Iranian MPs? They got green light from Khamenei to go ahead and issue a signed statement against him. His authority is crumbling and he's doing this to rally support. It's basically the babblings of someone losing power.
The only possible problem I can see is with Ahmanijidad in power. Since he may not be in power all that much longer, I don't see a problem with Iran having nuclear technology. Hell, their economy is ready to collapse out from under them, what with the oil fields being tapped out and the singular reliance of their economy upon oil. Even nuclear weapons aren't a problem since they provide a deterrent against their actual use. It's Mamoud in control of it all that would be a problem, and without that, it's fine.

I am quite fed up with the media's constant assumption that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad = Iran, its a stupid and uninformed assumption.
Second thing, 'nuclear standoff' and 'standoff over a nuclear issue' mean two completely different things, and AP really should know that.
Third, Iran is never going to make any serious attempt to destroy the Israeli state. Their leadership in the anti-Zionist movement is their most important propaganda tool.
Fourth, I don't even care if Iran gets nukes. Iran has only ever acted utilised its military for defence, and that's not going to change soon.
