My perspective: I have done plenty of stupid thing while drunk. If I die, it's my own fault. Am I too jaded or is this reporter's sympathies out of place?

The first two are pretty stupid.
The third really isn't that stupid: the man was hit in the back of the head with a branch and died. The police suspect that it was homicide, but it could have been an accident, or the branch could have fallen out of the tree. Just an example, but it really isn't that stupid.
The fourth is probably in reference to those "left behind" but they didn't make that clear.
