Ignore the troll. PC gaming has been dead for years. It just refuses to accept it's own death.
Anyhow, I'm currently saving up for a new tattoo, paying off a lot of debts, and hopefully getting a PS3. (Expensive as hell, but I can't turn down Final Fantasy, Resident Evil, Grand Theft Auto, Metal Gear Solid, Devil May Cry, etc.)
Still, my brother's getting a Wii and the new zelda game and madden 07 with it whenever the Wii gets back in stock, and I have to say that I'm pumped. I hear that people who don't even like video games have fun with it. Nintendo's always got their head in the game.

I got a Wii at launch (Dec 7th over here). Wii Sports and Wii Play are pretty cool. I played The Legend of Zelda - Twilight Princess for about 100 hours over the first few weeks and hit a wall. But I will return to it in time. I can go from playing games to watching YouTube videos without moving... it's awesome.

PC gaming seems alive and well to me, since shit loads of good games keep coming out for it and I've seen one console game I want to play. Maybe two.
Anyway, I plan on getting a Wii after I move out of my apartment, since my roommate owns one and I get to play it all I like.

From what I hear PC gaming is making a comeback.
The problem with PC gaming is that it will never truly make a "comeback" in today's world of consoles, and yet it is a niche of gaming that is large enough to never truly go away. There are certain titles, MMO's and FPS's for example, that tend to dominate the market, however there are also whole genres of gaming that go ignored.
The main issue with PC gaming is the PC itself. Consoles are standard, and standardization not only allows any game made for it to be played instantly without the need of upgrades, but it forces the publisher and designer to try and get the most out of what they have. Compare screenshots of say...Summoner for the PS2 with screenshots of Final Fantasy XII. The improvement is outstanding. However, if both games were released on PC's they'd require dramatic system upgrades and ultimately cost far more than the already-high $50 price tag.

Agreed. And I hate it.
I've played one, and it's a pretty cool system, but i'm a little bit uneasy about spending $400 on one when I have a perfectly up to date PC (especially since I mostly play strategy games anyway). That, and I have a crappy TV complete with fishbowl screen.

And yes, Swilatia, you are trolling, as usual in these topics. Every single time a console thread appears on this forum you are somewhere in the first three replies saying "consoles suck." Okay! There just aren't enough of the games that I like that Nintendo has to make it worth it now.
People have been saying for years that PC gaming is dead. They're wrong. PC is the strongest platform, end of story.
I don't know why it has to be one or the other. I think there are some games that play better on a console, while there are others that play better on a PC. Some games would be equally cool on either.
For instance, I wouldn't want to try to play World of Warcraft on a console, and I wouldn't want to play SSX 3 on a PC. I think Final Fantasy games could play well on either.

I don't have one and don't plan on getting one anytime soon. If I were to get one I would have to get a new TV before hand. The current TV has manual tuning with the wonderful novelty of an array of variable resistors so that you can tune up to twelve preset channels instead of constantly having to retune the TV when you want to change the channel.
But the Wii does sound pretty cool. Maybe I might get a new TV in the future... What are the multiplayer games like?

The absolute cheapest I've seen the Wii go for was from a catalogue shop for £180 ($350USD). It costs about £300 on amazon.co.uk ($585USD).

I considered getting one after Christmas, but as I don't have a telly and my monitor is DVI only I decided it wasn't worth the extra expense necessary for a 24" monitor. Yet. So I got a DS instead. I may well get one when I have something that it can draw its pictures on.
Whether you prefer PC or console gaming depends on various things, not least of which what kind of games you like. There was quite a rut in PC-land in 2006, but forthcoming games promise a lot.
I'd not bother getting an X-Box 360 or PS3 because there are far too few games I'm interested in on either (Gears of War might be worth a blast, Viva Pinata looks good), and most decent games on either will wind up on PC anyway. The Wii actually does things that the PC can't, currently, so owning both is worthwhile.
Console games seem to be a lot of third-person adventures, 3D platform games and arcade racers (and yes, I know this isn't the entire catalogue of all consoles ever, but they do seem quite common), and as those don't appeal so much to me I'm not going to care so much about console games. The PC tends to offer more "hardcore" simulation (GTR/GT Legends, Flight Simulator, etc.), strategy games (both RTS, turn based, and hybrid like Total War), FPS games, and the RPGs tend to be quite different to the Final Fantasy/Zelda-style that seems prevalent on consoles.
As for forthcoming PC titles I'm interested in over the next year: Supreme Commander, Spore (is that getting a console release too?), STALKER (assuming it lives up to its promises over the last four hundred years), Bioshock (multi-platform? Dunno), C&C3, Hellgate: London and Overlord all promise a lot, and if over half of them are good (we already know SupCom is) then that's more games than I'll have time to play over the next year. Especially if I pick up Medieval 2 and Company of Heroes on budget in a few months.

I love my PC, as I’m sure loads of Wii players do. And if you want to compare the systems overall, then obviously a PC, with it’s versatility, is going to win out. I’m not going to buy a Wii to play all my MP3’s, but I’ll damn well buy one to play golf, bowling, Zelda, Metroid, et all, with a motion-sensitive Wiimote.

i won't get one because i can't afford things like that. and cuz it has a silly name. they should have called it the Nintendo Puu, that would have been funnier.
plus i've never been able to get the hang of the controls on consoles.

Well, if you buy two wii's, then you can say "look at my Wii Wii." And not get in trouble. Although you can say "Loo at my Puu Puu" And that would be funny as well. Jeez. Such a hard decision!
If that becomes a possibility, I'm getting one immediately! :D
I hear that! I'll even sell my little brother to a slave camp for thee money to buy one!

And yes, Swilatia, you are trolling, as usual in these topics. Every single time a console thread appears on this forum you are somewhere in the first three replies saying "consoles suck." Okay! You don't like consoles! We get that now! If you hate them so much then stop clicking on topics about them. Your constant pointless console hate posts are nothing but trolling and topic derailing. /Rant

No, your stuff's still shit. You must be a cow, if you bought the PS3. What kind of a nut buys a PS3? You could use that money to buy something useful. Like a car, or a house. Or an island in the Bahamas.
Or a small galaxy. I was considering buying a PS3, but then I just bought this instead:
http://www.nasa.gov/images/content/110952main_galaxy_size.jpg
See? Same price as the PS3, 27 quintillion times the functionality!
you can buy a whole galaxy for just 1000 złoty?

I really don't understand why anyone would get a Wii. It seems to be totally pointless. If you want to play baseball, why would you pay for a video game so you can virtually play when you could actually play?

I don't particularly have a desire to, but if I did, I would rather go play with an actual sword than a controller and a TV screen.

I'll probably will get it in a few years. I just got a Nintendo DS, and I waited a couple of years for that, so I really won't need another new game system for a while.
Me and my brother got one for Christmas; he kept his and I sold mine so I could buy a PS3 and some stuff for my computer.

Oh, and it vibrates, too! :D
I hate it when controllers vibrate, the first thing I do with every ps2 game is go into the options menu and turn off controller vibration.
Regarding PC vs consoles, seeing as how a console is just a specialized computer, a PC could do anything a console can with the right hardware and drivers. Unfortunately, many developers have decided to make their games Xbox or PS2 exclusives. Another thing is that the features in new consoles are effectively making them PCs that you can do everything but work on. What I don't like is that console games have been moving away from hotseat multiplayer to online multiplayer.
That was my main attraction to consoles: being able to play with your friends & family using ONE machine and ONE copy of the game. With PC games, one usually has to violate the EULA and install it on multiple PCs and crack the game in order to play multiplayer over a network. Hotseat multiplayer on the PC, with the exception of some ports like LOTR: Return of the King, died 10 years ago or more. You may say "Why should PCs have hotseat multiplayer? You have a tiny screen." To this I will point out that data projectors can be cheaper than HD TVs. I got an Infocus X3 for under CAD1000 after shipping & taxes.
With respect to the original topic, the Nintendo Wii, I want to try one out, but I don't think I would play it very much if I owned one.

Ah... later in the year... sounds like an idea. Personally, the only reason to get a console is so that people can play games together in the same and socialise in general and so forth...

Because stuff like flying around popping giant bubbles and shooting up space pirates is too hard in real life. Also the points you make apply to all games.

To some extent, yes it does. But then, very few computer programs, and no widely sold ones, have attempted to replicate the actions of a sport.
As for it being said for all video games, yes. Yes it can be. And it should. Video games make a somewhat mediocre distraction. I would much rather DO something than play a video game where I kinda pretend to do something, but not really because everything is already dictated.

No, since you weren't disagreeing with anyone in the first place...you were throwing your unsolicited opinion out there to irritate people.
The question isn't "Do you like consoles?"
The question is "Do you have a Wii?"
The one stop rules shop in the moderation forum defines trolling as posts that are made with the explicit aim of angering people. As an unprofessional opinion, I would agree with Cromotar that your eloquent statement "consoles SUCK" falls under that definition. Your comment is irrelevant to the question posed by the thread in the first place and reeks of being nothing more than attention seeking.

Heresy! Lucky you I like you and can't bring my Wiid-out wrists (and I thought they were limp before!) to berate you for it.
Plus, I don't like sports games. Zelda and Mario and the like are where it's at, and for some reason I can't just get out there and gather pieces of the Triforce in the Swedish countryside. Well, if one doesn't count cos- and roleplay, but those are just pathetic beyond what any console can cause. So, Wii it is!

Better than what? PS3s are still sitting on store shelves collecting dust. The Wii, however, is impossible to come by since they always sell out within hours of new shipments. The console is vastly popular, and the success of the DS has also contributed.
That $600 price tag has hurt Sony bad. The casual gamers are the real market to be won, and seeing $600 compared to $400 (XBox 360) or $250 (Wii), the choice is fairly obvious. Especially since the PS3 currently has no really great games out right now. Sales might pick up a bit later when games like MGS and FF start coming out, but they will still have to compete with Nintendo's Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3, and Super Smash Bros. Brawl, not to mention Halo 3 on XBox.
Sony still has their European launch ahead, of course. Europe has been Sonyland for the past gen, but I think that the insult of making them wait an extra 4 months combined with the $840 equivalent price tag just won't fly.
I frankly don't see the PS3 ever catching up with the Wii sales, but then, I guess anything can happen in such a fickle market. In any case, they will never "bury" Nintendo. The big N has been in the market for over 20 years. They know what they're doing. They don't even have to have great sales like the other two, since they know how to make a profit on their consoles, which is why they could stay afloat despite the rather lackluster success of the Gamecube.

Console games more often than not suck and the Wii is in my opinion by far the worst platform Nintendo has put out in a very long while. Retards and noobs swing the controller around like noobish retards. I am neither so I'll never get it.
And even though it is now called the Wii I'll say it anyway. The only thing the Nintendo Revolution will revolutionize is the way you play Mario Party. (insert 25¢)

Well I wont buy Wii. BUT the reason is my friend has one already *mooches* and i won't have alot of time for it. Anyway i have a DS i am happy with. I generally end up buying a whole heap of games for my friend anyway, because he is a cheapskate and i generally give them to him as gifts. If i had a good enough TV and the time for a wii i would definitely get one,its just i am saving for an iPod as well.

I remain unconvinced thereof.
By the time I finally feel like shelling out the money for a new console, the next gen will probably be about to be released. :p
That, and my home internet connection sucks, so there's little point in me trying to bother with the online capabilities of any of the new consoles.

Sega are out of hardware forever, they've said it themselves many times. I believe them. The two console market may never return, the 3 big companies are way too strong.
Also PS3s are collecting dust because nobody wants to spend the money. While Wiis are constantly selling out.
Link (http://www.gwn.com/articles/article.php/id/850/title/PlayStation_3_Supply_Surpasses_Demand.html)
It now appears, though, that Sony is having no such issues. A recent check with my local game store found that they had plenty of Playstation 3’s in stock, and that they weren’t exactly moving. My first thought was that Sony had caught up with production and was sending out greater numbers, but the store informed me that they were still getting the same shipments they’ve been getting all along (roughly 2 systems a week), but that with nobody coming in to purchase the console the stock is just building up.
The employees of that store and others report that while they’re still fielding a high number of Wii-related calls during each day, they can go an entire day without any inquiries at all about the PS3. One store showed me a scratch pad they kept by the phone one day, making marks for each Wii call and PS3 call they received. At the end of that day the Wii had gotten 75, while the PS3 came in at 2.
Console games more often than not suck and the Wii is in my opinion by far the worst platform Nintendo has put out in a very long while. Retards and noobs swing the controller around like noobish retards. I am neither so I'll never get it.
Only retards, noobs and people playing sports related games swing the controller. Anyone who plays Twilight Princess that way is an idiot.

I'm not surprised that the Wii is outselling the PS3 by the truckload. Preaching playability over graphics worked, but the dominant factor is the bare-bones PS3 is priced at the premium version of the XB360 and 2 Nintendo Wiis. Add to that the PS3 supports a somewhat unfathomable format in BluRay plus launched with markedly less launch games and no real "killer app" that comes near the new Zelda...
and you've got one unhappy Sony Corp.
and thats just here... Japan is another story.
I'd honestly buy the Wii right now if I could, but... alas, im saving up for a car. and college.
