Anyone want to swap? Im in Melbourne Australia at the moment and just had an overnight low of 32 celcius (90ish F i think) looking for somewhere with snow, preferably lots of snow and daily highs around 0C...

Wasnt helped by the huge power failure we had last night across most of the city which gave the following fun things in the afternoon peak travel:

The blackout caused about 1200 traffic signals across the Melbourne and Geelong metropolitan areas to fail, a VicRoads spokeswoman said.
...
A Connex spokeswoman said the power failure affected the entire train network and there could still be delays this morning."It certainly hit us really hard," she said.
...
About 4pm, houses across Victoria's largest regional city, Geelong, were completely blacked out as non-functioning traffic lights caused chaos for homeward bound commuters.

Only a sprinkling of larger retail outlets with back-up generators remained open, before power was restored to Geelong at about 8pm.

Now as i understand it the US is in a cold snap so i would be very happy to swap with any weirdos who like the heat :-)

I feel your pain, it's hot here too. Luckily our power works... hopefully that comment won't turn around and bite me in the arse :D

I spent the weekend with a guy from the Perth area. It was about minus 25 with the wind chill. He went snowboarding down a small hill on the banks of the Missouri River near Wakpala SD across the river from Mobridge. He seemed to enjoy the cold. He talked to his mates who said it was about 40C back home. Come to South Dakota and go ice fishing.

Oh, boo hoo. The low here was ~30 degrees Fahrenheit -- with high winds. I still can't feel my face...

We had an ice storm where I'm at, every other school district was closed except mine.

Missouri--Central USA

I'll trade you straight across.

20 degree F high---7 below C

1 degree F last night---17 below C

4 inches--- 10cm of ICE. Started freezing rain on Saturday and continued through Sunday. Trees broken onto electric lines. We were lucky we didn't lose power.

Only consolation, I'm not in North Dakota or Canada with highs 10 below that's 23 below C.

Things can always be worse.

It's been in the 20s (Farenheit) around here, and we got a good bit of snow last night. In other news, Mazda MX-5s can be a lot of fun in an icy deserted parking lot at 3:00am.

Hehe, I missed most of it yesterday, I got back from Sydney last night, which had a max of 27oC while I was there. It seems to be cooling down here though, thankfully.

yeah the high yesterday was 40.8 (106/7??)

they had to cancel the tennis, including one point where a news crew put a thermometer on the ground (in the sun to be fair) on one of the outer courts, the temp got to 61 (142) and then the thermometer broke :-(...

sounds nice in the US at the moment :-)

Ive only been too cold once in my life, working at Heavenly Ski Resort Lake Tahoe, when it got down to -40C (-40F i think too) for 2/3 days at the base camp... apart from that it was all good... at one point i was content walking around barefoot/shorts/teeshirt at 2am outside for a snowball fight, which was also a lot of fun :-)

Reminds me of where I grew up. The temperature stayed above 38 for a good part of the year. Rarely went below 20. 42 to 45 is not unheard of. Oh, and humidity above 80%.

Check your TG. :p

It's been fairly nice here. There's still sludge leftover though, and it's freezing cold for a place that rarely goes below 0 degrees celsius.

i heard you many have power to last the day after parts of the state went with out the other day
Armacor
17-01-2007, 06:00
we only lost power cause the main line past benalla to the snowy scheme was burnt out in the gippsland fires... Therefore we had to rely on local (state only) power generation... Supposedly there was plenty of power but no way to move it around...

Well I am in Tassie and it's very hot and humid, about 30 or lower I'd say, yet it's totally overcast within no sun, and I heard thunder earlier. Very strange indeed.

Average max. temp here is currently 6C. Mean is around 4C, I think. It's probably colder at the moment because it's the tail end of the night and the sun hasn't risen yet. It's actually been quite a warm winter here. No snow this year.

I was iced in all weekend, I haven't been out of the house since Thursday, and another storm is headed in.........I might go crazy being stuck here.

I will trade.

You should know that it comes with 23F lows at night and about 5 inches of solid ice in your yard.

Living next to large bodies of water sucks for us snow lovers :(

I don't like the ocean much, and it keeps it from really getting cold enough for my preferences.

Not that its really been cold at all this year, but its finally getting towards normal.

Lucky me, it was only -25 C for a few days... then again, it was annoying walking 2km to school on 3" of ice... which just happened to have an icing sugar layer of snow that made it even more slippery... I slipped several times just standing still. I need to buy skates. I don't know why, but I'm actually fine (almost comfortable) walking to school in -25 C windy weather in two hoodies and jeans. I think I'm getting too used to Canada. Then again, this part of the province rarely gets cold... but it gets nice and toasty in the summer... *sigh* I'm so lucky, we get the best (well, not quite) of both worlds in the Okanagan... summer and winter... but not painfully so...

Bangor, Maine USA. We picked up about 6 inches (15cm) of snow. tonight's low: -6F (-21C), tomorrow's high: 7F (-14C), and they're predicting a major storm for this weekend, with at least that much more. I'll gladly swap.

so, as much as i hate the grey, dreary, rainy and depressing weather we're having right now here in the UK, i wouldn't be able to handle yours :P

Armacor
17-01-2007, 13:42
um...
1) there arent any nuke plants in vic (something i think is wrong anyway), all power is brown coal based

2) We have enough power, just the bushfires melted the transmission lines so it cant get through.

Wind Calm
Visibility 10 mile(s)
Sky conditions partly cloudy
Temperature 19 F (-7 C)
Dew Point 17 F (-8 C)
Relative Humidity 92%

I have two inches of ice on my car and am currently listening to my idiot next door neighbor spin his tires in the drive. He did the same thing yesterday and it took him thirty minutes to get his truck out.
We have 111,000 people in the state without power. And there are only three million people in Oklahoma.
No snow, just ice.

Victoria doesn't, we get about 25% of our power from NSW.

Damn. I demand your weather. I am in Eastern Europe and after very warm winter (around 5 celcius) now it just began to get cold. It will be a lot of snow this weekend they say. I hate cold. It's cold. I cannot wear t-shirts.

I demand 32 celcius weather. I will pay you for a change. And I don't like my climate zone in general :(

I will take the warm weather any day of the week. Right now it is -11 F and we might get up to +5 F today.
For all those guys who got nailed by the Ice storm I feel for you, in 1998 we got hit with one and it knocked out the power in most of the area for weeks.

Here in northern Italy we're experiencing the hottest winter since 1860. Last week we hit a +18 °C in Milan (usually January temperature range between -5 and +5 °C ) and an astounding +22 °C in Aosta. Righty-ho, +22 °C in January about 20 km away from Monte Bianco, the tallest mountain of Europe (little less than 5000 m tall!), and its glaciers.

Damn, in 20 years the Po valley will look like Darfur...

It's cheating, actually. With the humidity factor it's over 40, but the actual temperature is just 32 or something like that.

If they really got to feel an actual temp of 42 degrees plus humidity half the people then they'd have reason to complain.

We don't even factor in humidity over here as far as I know (because they usually give a seperate humidity rating), and our temperatures are usually *at least* in the high 30s...It got to 48 one day around this time last year, IIRC.

Here in Washington DC. we've had a false spring. It hasn't really been winter here at all, prior to today.
