My brother almost died in Iraq

I just found out. Apparently the Humvee he was in got hit. His legs are all messed up, and I don't know how much, yet, but it looks like he'll get through. The other guys on the Humvee didn't make it.
Just to clear it up, my brother was a soldier in the U.S. army. he was one of the guys who disarms IEDs.

If your religious, even though I'm not, I'd ask you to pray for him. If your not, I'd ask you to wish him well. I don't yet know if he'll be able to walk again. I really hope he will.

I'll be mad at the administration later. Right now, I just need to care about my brother.

I hope he walks away from this well -- both physically and psychologically. Some people never get over what they experience there...

My condolences.

BTW, a long time friend, CPT Patriquin, was killed in Anbar on Dec 6.

He actually seemed to know what was going on there, which is probably why he's dead - he was close enough to see it.

http://usacac.leavenworth.army.mil/CAC/milreview/English/JanFeb07/Patriquin.pdf

Published after his death.

Travis gift of being able speak Arabic made him an invaluable asset to any team.

Travis was hand picked and pulled from the 82nd to supervise a platoon of special operations SOT-A's during OEF-1.

Trav was one of the few Pashtun speakers in the military.

Trav inserted into the SHA-e-KOT valley when his teams were attached to 101st during operation ANACONDA in late FEB of 2002. He sucked up mortar, Arty, RPG, and Machinegun fire alongside the 101st soldiers.

Trav scored 3/3 (the highest rating) on his defense language proficiency test (DLPT) in Arabic, Dari, Urdu, and Pashtun. Travis was starting to learn Farsi so he could "talk to the man when we take Iran down next".

Using his superb language and people skills, Trav started an initiative to encourage the Iraqi people in Anbar to turn against the AQIZ fighters there.

Many people were too stupid to "get" what Trav was trying to do, so he made a Power Point presentation that even a 4th Grader (or 4th ID General) could understand.

I don't want to be seen as a troll.

I'm sorry your brother got hurt. And I hope he recovers. I sincerly do.

All I ask is that you remember that he made a choice to sign up. And that war always carries risk.

If the administration was to blame, then by all means, care for your brother then get mad. But if they weren't care for your brother... then leave it be.

Save your fury - you might need it when they decide he isn't 'hurt badly enough' to claim disability...

I am so sorry to hear this. I will pray for your brothers recovery (mental recovery as well). I'm sorry to hear about his friends too. I worry about my friends in the marines and family in the airforce constantly.

I pray for you and your brother. My condolenses.

My older cousin was a Marine in Iraq. He operated the TOW missile on the Humvees. Luckily he was called back. He got married after the war.

War isn't fun. My father experienced it first hand as an innocent 10-year old bystander in the Nicaraguan Sandanista Revolution.

Again, my condolenses.

Fortunate that he did not perish, and it would be equally so if his convalescence is without complication, but I cannot feign sympathy with a US soldier when so many Iraqis have met with fates far worse than his at the hands of the very labour he sought to complete, with nary a thread focused on their personal tragedies here, let alone consideration.

I feel sympathy for all of them. The U.S. soldiers simply following their orders and the insurgents following theirs.

I hope everything turns out okay in the end with him. If it's bad don't tell him that you feel sorry for him or anything like that becase it will only slow his mental recovery. Just try to be supportive. BTW, do you know how many other people were in his hummv?

thanks for the advice. I'm really not very well informed on what exactly happened, and I don't even know for sure if all the others died. I heard that from his mother (he's my half brother, and a lot older than me) and I have a feeling she heard it from him, and he might not know exactly what happened.
the damage to his legs might just be superficial. I hope dearly that it is.
