Journalism - the people at my old university who have set up a rival paper to the once good, now shit, toilet paper that drains £500 a fortnight from the student union funds
Local Politics - Parmjit Singh Gill, first MP for the Lib Dems from an 'ethnic minority'. Had the balls to come speak to students at the university while campaigning for the 2005 General Election, unlike the git who won the seat.
National Politics - Mo Mowlam, now sadly deceased. Was an honest politician (as honest as they get, anyway), hard working and took no shit. She also did a lot of charity work, apparently. Plus she did not let a serious illness stop her from her public work.
Art - can't really pick one. Many were very skilled, many pushed the boundaries of what was acceptable. Plus I know very little about art.
Creativity - Charles Babbage. Way ahead of his time.
Relatives - my aunt (mum's sister). For 11 years she was a single parent, with a daughter who has Down's Syndrome, and kept up a full time job as a teacher. And never complained.
Friends - you wouldn't know them, so there's not really much point.

Journalism

Daniel Schorr, NPR. Jules Pfeiffer, The Village Voice. Ellen Goodman, The Boston Globe. Walter Cronkite, CBS.

Local Politics

Sen. Kent Conrad (D-ND). It can't be easy being any kind of Democrat here.
Sen. Henry M. "Scoop" Jackson (D-WA). Jackson was nearly a presidential candidate in 1976 -- the closest my home state has come to that honor. Along with Rep. Warren Magnuson (D-WA), two of the best representatives Washington ever had.
State Sen. Steven R. Hobbs (D-Lake Stevens, WA, 44th Dist.). Not only one of my best friends since 1979, but easily the most scrupulous, honest and forthright people I've ever known. Served in Kosovo and Iraq and all he's ever wanted to do since then was serve his home town government, and after three tries, he finally won (depite the uber-Liberals in the party who tried to paint him as a murderer of Iraqi babies).

National Politics

Madeline Albright, fmr Sec. State.

Art/Creativity

Ella Fitzgerald, vocalist; Andy Partridge, vocalist/songwriter; Thomas Dolby, musician/innovator; David Byrne, musician/Talking Head; Jon Hendricks, musician/lyricist; Mel Torme, musician; Thelonious Monk, musician/composer; Hector Berlioz, composer; Richard Strauss, composer; Benjamin Britten, composer; Henri Matisse, painter; Wendy Pini, graphic artist/storyteller; Dave Sim, graphic artist/storyteller; Audrey Niffenegger, writer; Jared Diamond, writer/anthropologist; David Sedaris, writer; Molly Ivins, writer; Tom Robbins, writer; Aaron Sorkin, writer; George Carlin, comedian; Bill Hicks, comedian; Robin Williams, actor/comedian; Seth MacFarlane, writer/animator; Joel Hodgson, commentator/writer; Mel Brooks, comedian/actor/writer; and many more.

Relatives

Mom, my brother and sister.

Friends (Not the show..!)

Andy, Barry, Charles, Steve.
