In Canada, most of us dont do French, except pathetic high school classes.

And in the poll, it says most are mildly racist. I think that means that they dont offend anyone but they have some ideas that they keep to themselves. I dont see the harm in that.

Isn't that kind of an ironic thing to say, considering the subject matter? :p

I'm a racist apparently, because of some jokes. I'm also everything under the rainbow.

I don't actually hate black people (what am I saying? Blacks aren't people!) because of their colour, neither Muslims because of their religion.

I hate all knee-jerk reactionists though, just because I do not like someone who happens to be female/male/Muslim/Christian/black/white/yellow/red does not mean I do not like them for that defining feature.

Ideally, I do not hate at all, but I do of course, it is human nature.

I think most people are probably like that...remember those studies a while back? These kids were shown images of stick figures interacting; the images were ambiguous as to exactly what was going on. The kids were more likely to infer that the relationship was a negative one if one of the stick figures was black.

Thats colour association, see: emos = black and red.

We were doing a thing like that in class, when the teacher called out the colour we had to write down what we associated it with, most associated black with evil and witchcraft and the so. White with things like purity and angels.

Me, I found white disgusting as I associated it with things like the "white fluffly clouds" Heaven that is so prevailent in Western culture, and that I associate with Christianity/religion as a whole.

What's surprising is the honesty in answering the question. Most people are like "I'm not racist, but I'd never let my daughter marry a Muslim"

What people do in their privacy and whom they choose to associate with is no problem of mine so long as they harm no one.

I certainly do not. I believe race has biological bases, and I am not in the least attracted to nonwhites, but racist in the sense of hating others on such arbitrary bases is not something that characterises me.

The idea of hating (or even disliking) a group of people because of a physical characteristic they were born with offends my sense of reason.

Actually, evolutionary biology would suggest that all of us are conditioned to find people who look relatively similar to ourselves more sexually attractive than people who look very different from ourselves. This is obviously something that is easily and often overcome, but most people do naturally tend to prefer mates with similar phenotypes.

Of course, even if generally finding people of one race or another comparatively more sexy than others was out of the ordinary, unless you believe that one can only like or respect people with whom one wishes to have sex, it's still hardly evidence of racism. Heck, I have no particular desire to have sex with women, but approximately 50% of my friends and family are female, as am I. Am I therefore sexist? :p

I wouldn't say easily. In my case I am about as likely to find a nonwhite attractive as I am to find a woman sexually attractive. In other words, zero chance.

Yup, but racism is just one of the many faces of discrimination. Lots of prejudiced people use the excuse of "I'm not a racist because X is not a race" to feel better about their discriminatory ways.
