According to wiki,
The title, but not the plot, was inspired by the male attorney Sue K. Hicks of Madisonville, Tennessee, a friend of John Scopes who agreed to be a prosecutor in the Scopes Trial.

Reminds me of another boy with a girl's name:
Shirley Crabtree.
Who was indeed called Shirley by his dad to toughen him up.

Charles (after me, and I'd saddle him with the whole name shared by me, my father and my grandfather. That makes him the fourth [IV])

Funkenstein and The Green Meany.

Strangely enough, no one wants to breed with me.
(don't really want kids, I'm an uncle, that's good enough-all the fun NONE of the responsibility...)

why seven of nine real name not bad

she prefers TOS to Voyager.......kid's got a crush on Kirk

and her name isn't really all that popular in the states, and even less popular out here where all the girls are named "Jenny" and all the boys are named "Duke"

so the adults can't pronounce it  and the kids make fun of it :(

I don't understand why people can't say it, it's not like it's tricky.

girl: Sophie, cuz i've always liked it, although, thinking about it, i think Sophia sounds better. Oh, and reading through this thread i was reminded by WCIC of the name Ruth, i like that name too.
boy: dunno, i like Conrad but i don't think it sounds good with my surname. i know someone called Radik wich i thought was cool, but i think you need a foreign accent to get away with that. maybe Malcolm which is what my dad wanted to call me, except i know a malcolm and he's a bit of a dick.

Girl; Leonara, or Ermentrude (It would be a talking point, and I defy anybody to make a rhyme from that name)

there was a dizzy girl from Bude,
she called herself Ermentrude,
she fell down a mine,
made sounds like a bovine,
the talk of the town was, she'd moo'd.

hows that?

Theresa Ruth, if I have a girl. Terry was my mom's name, and Ruth is a family name.

I'd give the boy the middle name Michael (its waaaaay too common to have as a first name), but I dont know a good name I like to go with it.

But right now, odds are I'll never get married and end up like my spinster alcoholic Crazy Old Aunt Ruthie. *sigh*

What about Rendell for a boy? :p

Heaps of people are saying "Child 1" and thats actually what my parents did for most of us, not me unfortunatly I would've liked some derivative of Novem as a name.

My younger son wants to pick Horatio for his confirmation name - unfortunately we can't find a St Horatio - nelson fighting atheistic france and Hornblower being a fictional hero doesn't count to the vatican and the pope doesn't watch CSI:Miami [he watches House & ugly betty instead...]

My kids have weird names:

Jamie Corwin Listener Seraphim Harkins-Priest
Rowan Hannah Dream Wyllow Harkins-Priest
Jonathan Gregory Connachie-Priest

My Dad's a Scottish Laird and my Great grandfather a White Russian Knight of the Order of St George so luckily we can get away with ridiculous names.
besides which, the kids adore their names...
