O'Reilly, Colbert to appear on each other's shows
NEW YORK (AP) -- It may feel like looking into the mirror for Bill O'Reilly and Stephen Colbert next week.

The Fox News Channel host and Colbert, who has essentially based his comic character every evening on Comedy Central on him, will trade appearances on each other's programs January 18.

"I'm really looking forward to speaking to a man who owes his entire career to me," O'Reilly said.

On "The Colbert Report," Colbert portrays a self-involved talk-show host who has tried to bring "truthiness" to the world. His character owes an obvious debt to O'Reilly, who holds court in the "no-spin zone" each evening.

On "The O'Reilly Factor," O'Reilly portrays a ... um, he hosts the top-rated program in cable news.

"I look forward to the evening," Colbert said. "It is an honor to speak face-to-face with a broadcasting legend, and I feel the same way about Mr. O'Reilly."

This could be even worse than the Penn Jillette interview (http://onegoodmove.org/1gm/1gmarchive/2006/11/penn_jillette.html)...

"I'm really looking forward to speaking to a man who owes his entire career to me,"O'Reilly said.

To be honest, when reading it, I'd thought Colbert was the one who said it.

That should be the poll.

I am shocked and awed.

The reporter used "um".

I hope Colbert makes O'Reilly look like the self-important, blowhard he is.

Um...is it possible to make O'Reilly appear otherwise?

The question is, by trading appearences, do they mean hosting each others shows, or merely being guests on each others shows? If the former, we're in for some crazy shit. If the latter...we're in for some crazy shit. May be the only time I watch the O'Reilly Factor.

It'd be great if there was a Colbert-O'Reilly incident to match the Stewart-Crossfire incident. :D

He manages to do that pretty well on his own.

Oh, it'll be nothing like that. It'll be more like this:

I don't know how likely that is. Remember, Stephen plays a character called Stephen Colbert on his show, while Stewart is just a straight man. It would take some fantastic acting and improvisation skills, and while Stephen is good, I don't know if he's THAT good. Witness what happens when he messes up saying something, for instance: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u83etISbcwg

Yeah but it takes some one else calling him on it to piss him off.

Hmmm. Colbert is funnier so far.

I think Colbert has grown a lot since his banana-eating days at the Daily Show. Hopefully O'Reilly will be served his Waterloo by Colbert in the coming days :D

I wouldn't know, seeing as how I only got into The Daily Show and the Colbert Report a few months ago or so. Still, we shall see. We shall see.

The Daily Show and its conservative drag child the Colbert Report is the best Cinderella story on cable TV, and you should know the whole story.

Get the DVDs, or download episodes from the Internet, whatever works for you.

I've actually been watching every Colbert Report episode in sequence through a download off of the intertubes.

I would do the same with the Daily Show but I can't find any archives online.
