Just found this indy film company (http://www.waverlyfilms.com/) with a lot of great shorts free to view on its website. I've never heard of them before (Waverly Films?), but the quality of their work is most excellent. Varied, too, ranging from the hilarious to the disturbing.

The best ones I've seen so far:

That StarCraft cut scene with the ghost and marines fighting all the Zerg was pretty kick-ass to me.

Short films tend to be of a rather more localised nature than feature-lengths.
