Pathetic. Really pathetic. If any other top ranked team in the world played like this, Man Utd, Werder, Inter, Sevilla, there would be HELL to pay.

You don't expect a low ranked team to do particularly well. You expect the top team to do well.

FYI, they have not always been a 'low' ranked team. In fact many times, on paper, they should have been a powerhouse.
Edit: And for the love of god, if you ever go to newcastle, don't call them a low ranked team.

Most teams are powerhouses on paper. But Melbourne Victory is FIRST. They haven't won a game in almost a month. Can you imagine if Manchester United didn't win a game for a month?

I kind of remember them collapsing in the seventies. I'm not sure if they were first in the league at that point, because it was bit before my time.
Anyway, that's the nature of football. A really top team can suddenly turn sour. That's why I don't follow it all that much anymore.

In the 70s Man Utd managed to get themselves relegated to the Second Division. IIRC, the decade was dominated by Leeds, Brian Clough and Liverpool.
Chelsea have only won one of their last five, and that was against Macclesfield, who are second bottom of the English Football League. That's pretty bad.

Very frustrating indeed, I'm still going to the final(s) though. They'll really have to pick up their form if they hope to win the grand final.

Drawing with the Glory and losing to the Roar at home (as well)... Now I understand that Victory fans (this season) have higher expectations than most, but that form is mediocre by any stretch. Well, apart from NZ's.
Still, I might fit into Hindmarsh tomorrow. Flag in hand, and abusing David Carney at every opportunity.

I've noticed that lately, New Zealand has been a better team that Melbourne. Last three weeks, Melbourne have W-D-L, New Zealand have W-W-D.

A team's deficiencies are often temporarily masked by the arrival of a new coach. No idea why, but teams usually play better (or get better results) for anything up to a month afterwards. That may explain NZ's good form.

Because the players will be trying to impress the manager. They will be playing for their places. Believe it or not complacency does exist in teams...

Then why doesn't the manager keep them on their toes all the time. Or perhaps the club can bring in a new manager every month. ;)

I think they will. The players must realise now, after the 2-1 loss to Queensland, that they won't even make the grand final if they continue to play like that.

Brentford have been up there. Admittedly that was in the 1930s, but I'm sure some of their fans still remember it. :p

Don't bet on it unless we get a major cash injection. People have been saying the English league has been becoming more about money for years, but now I think its actually happening

Really? Look at how Colchester are doing in the Championship. Or Derby. Neither team has spent much recently, but they're both in the top 6. Sure, a club like Charlton is very unlikely to break into the top 4 - or top 6 even - of the Premiership, but they shouldn't really have to worry about getting relegated from it.

And theres the rub. We have now reached a stage in the game where it is only possible for maybe 3 or 4 teams to stand even an outside chance of winning the premiership.

I am trying really hard to 'get into' the A leagues. I want to. I like the idea of a rising Aussie Soccer scene. I like the idea of following a team in a sport that isn't completely vulgar and inane.
However
I just can't get past the poor colour themes of the teams. Really. I simply do not find one of the teams 'likeable'. I mean Sydney FC (the team I would most likely support apart from aesthetics) is light blue with a touch of orange... WTF?! Queensland (The team I would be second most likely to support) is also blue, but with more orange.
That means the age old rivalry between NSW and QLD will be Orange/blue versus Blue/Orange. Plus, I have lived in 4 different states and Territories, 10 seperate towns and cities, and I really only have access to 2 teams to follow (QLD where I was born, and Sydney my favourite and current city). The rest of the areas don't have teams.
The only teams with decent colour themes are Melbourne (Blue/White). And NZ (Black/White.. shock). Still, this means Sydney vs. Melbourne (city rivalry) is Blue white and orange vs. Blue and white.
I just can't wear baby blue to a soccer game. Sorry Sydney, I like you, but I can't. Grow some balls and pick a better colour. Maybe Green (i.e. That 'Emerald City' thing). My Colour sense is pushing me towards Melbourne (Darker Blue+white= decent combo). My Heart is pushing me towards QLD (Bright bright Orange)...
I must think on it. Melbourne is more likely to win, but I have never lived there, or even visited (of all the places I have lived/been). Melbourne is the wise choice. Blue+White, Good team. I can't Follow Sydney. QLD is the decision I want to make, but I really don't like Orange that much, plus They are probably not as likely to do well.
Damn A leagues.
