Patriots Need Not Apply

I heard this the other day on the radio and found it interesting. While it is stated that there is "no policy against it," doesn't it seem unfair? If I were a Chargers fan (which I'm not, but say I am), I wouldn't be allowed to go to the game as I'm not a resident of southern California.

Besdies, how do they determine who is a resident and who isn't? I.D.? That's unreliable. Isn't this discrimination?

It's unfair, yes. But it isn't in any way illegal. They are restricting it to local area codes through ticketmaster. I could still get tickets on ebay pretty easily, but they would be much more expensive.

Amazingly, private business can discriminate almost any way they want.

Yes, businesses can discriminate...but...well...

It’s just stupid.

Exactly.

And only for the purpose of home-field advantage. Pfuh.

Pathetic is the word that comes to mind.

Shit. I hope New Orleans is doing the same thing. Ever since the Superbowl became a mega-corporate event that most fans can't even dream of getting to, a home-field playoff game is about as good as it gets. Why shouldn't a home team reward the fans who've supported them by giving them the chance to buy the tickets? Money's money, but it's not like the game wasn't going to sell out if Patriots fans didn't buy tickets.

I don't even really think there was a huge risk for tons of pats fans buying tickets...

after all, Pats are New England, Chargers are California. That's a bit of a treck for a football game.

but for anyone who wants tickets, here they are (http://search.ebay.com/patriots-chargers_W0QQfkrZ1QQfromZR8QQsubmitsearchZSearch)

So Patriots fans don't deserve to see their team play live? Say you have people from Boston visiting you in San Diego and you want to go to the game, you can go but your friends/family/whatever can't go with you?

I know it's a private run business, and they can do whatever they like within regulations, but I guess the greater question here is: should professional sports teams be allowed to do this?

They're not preventing Patriot fans going to the game. They're just not allowing any tickets to be sold outside the local area.
If a Patriot fan lived within that area, or if one drove there, they'd still be allowed to purchase tickets.
Of course the likelihood of those two things happening are low, so it's just going to be mostly Chargers fans at the game.

anyhoo...meh. Some ppl get so damn obssessive about a bunch of fat sweaty guys running into each other.

I don't know what crack you were smoking when you read the article, but you need to put the glass dick down and walk away. All that's happened is that the Chargers have made it impossible to buy tickets to the game unless you have a San Diego billing address. You can't buy the tickets online if you have a billing address outside that area. It's not like they're going to be denying people at the gate entrance unless they can produce photo id with a San Diego address or anything. Besides, there are workarounds for any New England fanatics who really want to get there--ticket agents and the like. I guarantee that when the game airs, there will be people in the stands sporting their Patriots jerseys, and because of this flap, they're almost guaranteed to be on television, perhaps even interviewed.

See, there's me not comprehending things again. You all may go about your business. *blushes*

And they're not "fat," they're "built." There's a difference. ;)

Sorry. I overreacted and shouldn't have made the crack smoking comment. My apologies.
