The phrase "plumbing new depths" struck me as funny in this context.
Jay Leno joked last night that one of the most popular gifts this Christmas was cosmetic surgery gift certificates. I wonder, but still, that a comedian would think it common enough to warrant a joke is a little disturbing, sort of.
