Logitech Products Piss Me Off

I've had a lot of dealings with Logitech products over my years of computer usage, usually with wireless mice or keyboards at school or at a library, and the occasional set of headphones or headsets at various places, but now I've just had an experience that really tears it:

Purchased along with my other computer parts at NewEgg was this headset. (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16826106938) Ever since I bought it, it has been acting like a piece of crap. Though with fantastic sound quality and sound cancellation, the headset itself has been falling apart from day one. The ear pieces swiftly came disconnected and rarely stay on the main body of the headset when not on my head, which is bad enough, but the cord has constantly tangled up in itself, fraying the insulation off, and now? Now, as I moved my head slightly, a normal head motion that typically accompanies normal computer usage, the cord snapped. It just snapped without any real undue stress. Quite honestly, this really pisses me off. I have no speakers nor anything else to connect to this computer, since the whole point was to use this headset, and as such I right now have no sound, negating over half of what I usually do on this computer. Currently I'm submitting to NewEgg for an RMA but I doubt they'll give it to me since they'll consider the fraying cord "physical damage" rather than a defect, but I'd really like to avoid spending any money right now for a new headset or anything else, since I'm kind of jobless at the moment.

So, with that rant over, what experiences have you guys been having with these products, or other electronics while we're at it?

I've found them to be quite durable. What annoys me about their keybords is the keyfaces are too far apart, and they use the QWERTY layout.

As far as profit-making is concerned, there is no such thing as a perfect product.

Cordless mice (mouses?) - any brand. They go through batteries, the way I go through chocolate, the cursor is all over the screen - you can't control them. I hate them.

Eh? What's wrong with the Qwerty layout? It's just the standard layout of every keyboard I've ever seen. I've never actually seen a Dvorak keyboard in my life, to tell you the truth, and I'm not aware of any other keyboard layout either.

(On a side note, a brief search at NewEgg has lead me to a well rated, extremely affordable headset (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16826106502) that I may choose to purchase if I find nothing better and am denied the RMA.)

You have to make your keyboard dvorak yourself. But actually, I want to get this (http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1697,1956797,00.asp) for my next keyboard. It is nice and sturdy, with the old style click. Also it will keep me from looking at the keyboard so much.

That's a neat looking keyboard.

(And I just got an RMA confirmation, which makes me a little happier. I'll borrow my mom's headset for the next few days since I bought her an identical one(which has thus far not seen a single bit of tangled up cord or loose ears, lending me hope that a replacement will not suffer the same consequences my original did). Out of curiosity, Posi, have you had any experience returning items to NewEgg? I don't have the original packaging since that was thrown away; will that cause them to not honor the RMA?)

Unfortunatly, it is also ~$100 Canadian, so I'm not going to be buying it anytime soon. Which is a shame.

I don't use newegg. I use a local distributer (NCIX.com) so I do not have to pay for shipping. It is also nice that they display prices in Canadian dollars. The thing I like best about the site though is the PC Builder page. It basically builds a default PC, and using drop-down menus you pick the parts you want. Keeps you from forgetting anything.

Crap. I was hoping you'd let me in on that possibly important factoid.

Ah well. Only thing to lose right now is the shipping cost of sending it to them.

And that does sound useful. NCIX.com you said? I'll keep them in mind if I have to build a new PC and/or help someone else build theirs.

My logitech mouse likes moving the mouse pointer to the edge of the screen.

I was wondering what makes my mouse fuck up the way it does. It's no good fighting people online when you're suddenly spinning in wicked fast, nausea inducing circles. I've died many times because of that bullshit. No more logitech mice for me!

I've never had a problem with my Logitech mouse. Its just a bog standard USB mouse with the light thingy underneath. It did come with a meter long usb extension cable which was a bit odd.

There is a problem in your drivers and/or connection.

I am the distroyer of cordless mice. I am a flailer of arms. All mice without cords will go flying across the room and shatter into pieces, whereas those of cords shall stay firmly rooted to the spot.

My logitech mouse broke when it fell off my desk one to many times. My corded mouse would fall of the edge, but the cord stops any harsh impact with the floor.

I'm typing this on a Logitech PS/2 keyboard which cost me $11 about five years ago and doesn't have even one dodgy key, despite having coffee splashed on it and a few thumpings. The mouse on my other puter is a Logitech, USB optical mouse of about the same vintage, also a cheapie. It's gone shiny with use, but the Logitech symbol is still on the top of it, and it works fine.

So, I'll say that Logitech products were rock-solid five years ago. That's my experience.

It's optical (has a laser LED shining out the bottom?)
If the surface it's on is shiny, at all, it might do that.
Also if it's not totally flat to the surface. For instance, gunk built up on the bottom of it. I get that because I don't wash enough, and the desk is filthy.

So you can put the computer a long way away. MINE is in the next room, I hate the noise and almost never use CD's -- rotten obsolete technology built by music companies. CD :headbang: CD :headbang: CD ... nevermore!

But using a Dvorak layout with the keys labelled QWERTY is so much fun! It confuses the hell out of people :) Unlabelled keys just wouldn't be the same. They'd get confused before they typed anything. Where's the fun in that? ;)

If I could just make a UK-Dvorak layout for XPx64 I'd be a very happy bunny. And I wub my MS Natural 4000s. Best keyboards ever.

OK. MS branded stuff is great ... except the software!

I have a logitech mouse. I payed a very cheap price for it, and that was about a year ago. Since then it has not caused a single problem, and is still as smooth as ice.

As someone's already said, that's a problem with your settings, interface, or physical connection.

For 32-bit XP/2K I made a Dvorak layout with the symbols (",@, £ - that's annoying, ALT+0163 is a nuisance - and so forth) in the proper places for a UK keyboard. Sadly the software doesn't work on XPx64 :(

I used to have a wireless mouse. pissed me off to no end. now i have a cordy mouse. works like a charm. there was a period of time where there was a problem with the mousewheel not working. seems fine now though.

Only problem i have now is with my logitech extreme 3d pro joystick. for somereason, it hates the right side. i can tilt and twist it to the right just fine physically, but in my games (flight simulators).... plane will barely turn right, if at all. plus, it has a habit of recalibrating itself repeatedly. REPEATEDLY! and having to manually recalibrate manually every 5 minutes pisses me off to no end.... :gundge:

like the other person who was having problems with their optical mouse: don't use it on a shiny or particularly dirty surface, it can have random annoying effects. try putting a couple of sheets of paper / a sheet of cardboard under it and it should stop the problems.
when we got our first optical mouse, mum insisted we use a mat for it that was clear plastic with ridges. it was not as responsive as it should be and avery minute or so, in a fisrt - person shooter, would make me spin around, staring at my feet for a few seconds, which gets kinda annoying. fortunately, i convinced her to stop using it.

I have a Logitech G7 mouse. In my opinion it is *the* best mouse. So much better for gaming than any mouse I've used, even the overrated Razers.

I have not had any problems with this mouse, even after abusing it.

Though for a keyboard, I prefer Dell keyboards. There is something to them that feels just right.

Mine is seven years old now. Unfortunately, they seem hard to find these days (they all seem to be putting the ball up by the middle finger, instead of at the thumb). Best make sure mine stays alive.

You can change it in the control panel so it doesnt do that. or theres probably a taskbar icon. Ive got a logitech mouse for this computer and one for work, and logitech speakers. Everything is just great.

I prefer to have the ball by the middle finger for gaming, but at work I have one that uses the thumb. Most people don't know what it is when they see it. And, yeah, damn hard to find.
