My friend told me about this band today, and after listening to their stuff I was so impressed that they immediately became my new favourite band. Their songs are all amazingly good. Tommorrow I'll be buying all their albums and I'm going to be keeping an eye out for when they next tour the UK.

So is anyone else a DragonForce fan?

DragonForce kicks ass. They're playing style is amazing, and I love how their solos always sound like old-school video games.

1986 called. It wants it's crappy music and haircuts back when you get a chance.

My dorm called. They said that you made this thread a week early - the resident legion of DragonForce fans (including my roommate) aren't back yet.

Ah, come on: you gotta admit that Fury of the Storm was a good song at least.

But if you're looking for a good band, Nightwish is superior. At the very least, listen to Ghost Love Scene. Absolutely fantastic.

What does cheese-metal have to do with emo, or any other type of hardcore? :(

Dragonforce are awesome. Saw them at Sheffield Octagon last month and they were fucking amazing. Got to say, I prefer their early stuff though. Hope they never lose the tradition of ending with "Valley of the Damned". Classic stuff. :D

Makes me want to go out and buy a Z28 with T-tops. And grow a mullet.

Nope.

Power metal is really, really (and I mean really) not my thing.

Yeah... I'm guessing this is the first time you've really encountered power metal? Here's a crash course in some bands to listen to. You'll probably love some, and not like some.

Stratovarius
Hammerfall
Sonata Arctica
Blind Guardian
Iced Earth
Rhapsody of fire

There are so many more, but that should give you a good taste of what there is to offer.

I don't know about a good taste...hehe. I'll stop. But yes, that's a fair rundown on what the genre has to offer, plus Helloween and Manowar.

This is true. Live, they're excellent, and a pick of their songs are very good. But there's nothing original about the later albums. Not necessarily a bad thing, though - what they do, they can do very well.

They're wank. They have a ream of songs all of which have the same riff. They have "classic rock" stylings, awful vocals, no stage presence, cheesy album artwork, and shocking videos.

Try some proper music, such as Azriel:)

Bought their recent album and musically thought it was good. I wouldn't buy another album because like a few other bands in that genre I think it would get monotonous.

Anybody heard of a band called Guardians of Andromeda?

I don't like Dragonforce. They're just too generic, and there isn't enough variation in their songs. I prefer Blind Guardian, Machinae Suprmacy, Epica, and Kamelot.

Uh, i've heard of "Love Outside Andromeda" and simply "Andromeda", but not that one.

That's quite possibly the last thing you could accuse them of. I saw them at Download, and only two other bands beat them for stage presence - Metallica and the Prodigy. They know how to perform.

Power metal ftw! :D I have a vast power metal collection, I'll find you some reccomendations later when I get home.

<blah blah> no stage presence

I'll assume then that you haven't bothered to see them live, stage presence is one thing they do extremely well. Ok you can accuse them of silly haircuts, cheesy artwork...but then you may as well just say that about the entirety of power metal not just Dragonforce ;)

I have all their albums and have listened to them quite a bit, Inhuman Rampage is my favourite, Sonic Firestorm is alright but it lacks the enthusiasm I find of Rampage and Valley of the Damned. Its not music to wake up to with a hangover and it gets exhausting simply listening to it over anything more than 2 songs. Still I respect their vision, their guitar sound can at times be a bit thin/dry or something which I dont like and they can be very samey, even with the solos which lack soul at times but overall Dragonforce rock. Cant beat the ridiculous guitar solos of Cry For Eternity, the Wagnerian epic majesty of Valley of The Damned or the sheer cheesiness of Fields of Despair
