One NJ lawmaker wants to make sure that there are no idiots in the state. He's planning to do this by changing the wording of state constitution that prohibits idiots and the insane from voting.

Personally I think it's good that we don't let idiots vote.

I can think of a lot of good points about not letting idiots vote. Coming up short on disadvantages.

Like it already does. The NJ State Constitution already says no Idiot can vote. He just wants to replace it with something else.

To be serious for a moment: Good. I'm glad to see ridiculously nasty language like that removed.

To return to the spirit of this thread: If Joisey got rid of idiots, I'd be very glad to live fairly far away so that I wouldn't have to deal with too many of the millions of exiled idiots. Also, I wonder what would happen to all the roads in NJ once every driver in the state has left? :p

Do you really think this measure will be defeated? There's no sane reason to vote against it.

And I am aware that "idiot" was once used as a medical term. That doesn't make it reasonable language to use in a modern legal document.

IMHO, I think this mental illness shtuff is a load of bull. Not that it's fake, just that the diseases are fake. People have corrupted brains(not minds) because nature frucked up and we should just let it be and stop wasting our time and effort over it.

I currently live in VA for my job, but I was born and raised in Jersey (and plan on moving back). Let me tell you, there are more idiots in Virginia than I thought possible. Much more so than in Jersey.

buh? So someone who has, say...cancer (cancer is just a corrupted bunch of cells) shouldn't get treatment, since corrupted organs are not something we should waste time and effort into curing?

Why can't they just prevent the ignorant from voting? If the voter lacks a reasonable understanding of economics and realpolitik, do you really expect them to vote in people who can actually do the work that goes with their position?

Well, it could also be argued that by willingly voting in full knowledge that they are politically ignorant, they are admitting to lacking in intelligence. :p

I find it normal. In Italy if a person is "interdicted" (declared legally unable of understanding and choosing) he loses his political rights. That is, pathologically insane people are banned from voting and being elected, among a lot of other things, like handling money.
Average idiots can vote, anyway...:(
