Allegiance(s) of the forum

Well people keep saying this and I want to see what majority, or significant minority, allegiance this forum does.

Please take the time to go to wikipedia (http://wikipedia.org) and research each individual ideology as 'liberal' to me, a European, is wholly different to what a liberal is occasionally perceived to be in the US.

I'd be very gratuitous if one member could take the time to explain, in short, each ideology from a neutral point of view.

Enjoy.

I'll say this: there's as many definitions for socialism as there are socialists.

Oh, and to answer your poll, I'd have to describe myself as a social liberal and a Bennite socialist, but as with everything, I tend to disagree on some issues and agree with others on them.

Voted for the second through fourth because I have various stances on differing things like economics, civil rights, political rights, the environment, et cetera.

You can vote as many times as you like for many of us may have cross-overs. Do not, however, go for multiple selections for the hell of it. If you're unsure do not vote and if you're only semi-sure pick the one closest to you.

I've excluded many ideologies so we can keep with the mainstream. When I say 'far-left' I mean those adering to Maoism, Marxist-Leninism and/ or Trotskyism. Far-right would be akin to the Consitution party or the BNP/ UKIP. We're talking real nationalism etc, etc.

If you're a social-democrat or adhere to Third Way politics then choose both Socialism and Liberalism. If you adhere to democratic socialism simply click socialism. If you adhere to radical socialism, violent socialism or syndacalism choose a more left-wing option.

I went for simplicity. It would take ten options for any latter vote stating, 'What Socialist are you?'. This is rough, plain and simple. I'm trying to get more votes then the political elite. A fair point by yourself though.

I'll probably get harangued for this, but for clarification purposes, are you referring to "liberal" as the European ideology or the American?

I don't side with any faction, because none of them represent my views well enough for me to do so.

I'm a crazy left-winger in my orientation. I vary between favouring Anarchism and Trotskyism. (Both of which I infuse with ecofeminist ideas).

Allegiance is such a funny word and I can't really categorise my leanings using it. I don't swear "allegiance" to any ideology. My personal philosophical outlook is that of anarchism, but I am willing to support various causes that are not exclusively the domain of the radical left, as well as work with Marxists and other socialists in achieving certain objectives. This goes as far as being willing to involve myself in the parliamentary process where necessary in order to achieve short term goals and protect the rights that we currently have. In the end, I guess "socialist" fits, but that's an awfully nebulous term and I don't necessarily agree with all people who label themselves as such.

Really? I always thought you were more of a moderate. Cool. :)

I don't hold my allegiance to any ideology. I debate every issue on it's merits. Therefore I tend to get stuck between left and right wingers who can't admit that they are wrong.

Bad thing is though, people who answer Socialism actually dont know what it is, I have seen alot of people claim socialist policies but conduct extremely conservative capitalist policies.

I am (in European terms) both a social and a market liberal. However since I don't generally appreciate chucking the baby out with the bathwater, I put conservative as well.

Eeeee... I vary, like I say. I'm a person, not the embodiment of an ideology.:D

Also I'd probably get labelled as a troll if I went "this is typical of the patriarchal society's emphasis on..." all the time. :p So I just think it. :p

Hehehehe. I have a friend like that, and there's often commentary from her on how "phallic" particular monuments and the like are. ;)

I think I know pretty much everyone here that have been here for more than a year and a half. Uh, I mean, continue feeling special if you like. :p

Tsk. The epitome of underage drinking is chugging that which should not be chugged - like hard spirits, preferably cheap bourbon or scotch (vodka for emergencies).

Then you get that year or two older and realise you can't do it anymore, so you graduate onto beer. :p

Pretty much. Also, beer's easier not to get confiscated. They take the one in your hand, but you keep the others in your mates bag, so you can just move along and keep drinking. :P

Well, I don't know. For getting drunk in public, 7-9% cans of bourbon and cola are quite effective since they just taste like cola anyway. Good beer is to be enjoyed, not wasted on fun-yet-petty causes like liver damage. :) (But bad beer is to be avoided. *nods*)

True for me as well...

...I'm so unrepresented by either major party in the U.S. right now, it's pretty sad actually.

Yeah. And they are (or were...this was half a decade ago :p) usually only $15 or so for a six pack or a four pack with the funky oversized cans. I did enough scouting around in my youth for alcohol content versus price and the only thing that beat them was mouthwash. :)

Hahahaha!

Real feminist economics? As in "Why is Mother's Milk cheaper than Cow's Milk?"-feminist economics?

We don't have one of those yet, I don't think.

Dudey. Cider's what we'd generally settle for if we were that concerned with price... that's damn cool, cans of boubon and cola... I'd say we should import it, but it'd just fuel the alcopops crowd. :-/

Bad thing is though, people who answer "liberal" or "conservative" usually plea for help to Mommy State whenever their own capitalist enterprises lose money.
