How creepy is this?

So, there's this local Portland Radio show with a wonderful producer named Sarah. Sarah got a very creepy message via myspace (http://www.myspace.com/stetsonman1970) and talked about it on the show. Sarah eventually posted it to her blog (http://sarahxdylan.blogspot.com/) and several people emailed her and said they got the exact same message. This guy has started leaving comments on her blog (https://www2.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID=31713614&postID=1022579544576632193) and has now changed his MySpace about me to be a scary diatribe about Sarah.
So, are we overprotective of Sarah or is this guy really oogie?

And prove that more NSers have myspace accounts.

Exactly.
I read the links in the OP and the first thing I saw is his current entry on his page where he is apologizing for coming across as freaky.
Maybe I am thick - but what on earth is so "creepy" about his initial message to her??
So she already was in a relationship - big deal, I'm sure that's not the only time someone contacted her nevertheless.
I'm rather stumped at all of this, I have to say. Reading his apology, I feel sorry for him. If I was him, I'd have taken down my profile already.

that's the common urban legend. But its also false.
MySpace is monitored by real law enforcement who pretend to be little girls. They also have other features in place, including IP monitoring.
The best feature is that children are banned from MySpace.

I got the same feeling from this.
Some people are fucking dickheads, really. They're ready to jump all over somebody for making a huge mistake, and even when said person apologises, they still beat them down... Even moreso, usually. I've seen this happen a few times before, but this one stands out.

Oh, and how do they plan to actually enforce the ban if someone can easily lie about their age online? Children aren't as dumb as they may seem. JUst because something says it's "child proof" doesn't mean it is.

Shocking as it might sound, some parents actually encourage their kids to lie online. They encourage 10 to 13 year olds to say they are 19 so they can have a MySpace account so the kids will be busy with that and the parents won't need to hire a baby sitter.
In a few cases, little girls were dressing up in just their undies and posting it to their accounts, claiming to be 18 to 25. And their parents let them do it.
MySpace is not meant to be a babysitting service.

That's out and out bullshit. Some of the girls I've coached on my U14 soccer team have myspace pages (although I coach boys now), according to the downtime chatter I've heard. As far as I can tell, there's fuck all in place to keep kids from setting up pages. Sure, there may be the occasional cop checking things out, but myspace does practically nothing to police itself, and that's really what needs to be done.

You just proved why "Myspace" is not child proof. All it takes is one child to learn the secret to getting around the protections and soon others will know.
S...and has now changed his MySpace about me to be a scary diatribe about Sarah.?
Uh...scary diatribe? Yeah, and the original message isn't that creepy.

While it is true that MySpace could do more to police itself and respond to complaints (there are no rules against spamming or stealing other people's accounts it seems), you have to remember that it is still a privately owned site, not a public place like a school. The best way to ensure kids don't get on MySpace is to block it at school and at the public library.
You also have to remember that a lot of the young girls on MySpace are drama queens who make things up to get attention.

Note to self: stop doing that.
Seriously, though, I can see how it was taken as creepy, but I don't think the guy meant it as such. Really, I think its a difference between Netiquette and how we deal with people in real life: usually, when you go to places like Craigslist or some random dating site, you are supposed to be forthright in saying exactly what you like in a woman. If you do that just after being introduced to a person IRL, however, yes, that's pretty damn creepy, even by my standards. So I think his problem was simple misinterpretation of what she thought MySpace is about: she looks at it more like an IRL social mixer, he looks at like a dating site. I do think her pursuance of this reeks of douchebaggery, though.
You should keep your MSN private so people can't just randomly add you.
Well, I generally don't mind if people randomly add me since it doesn't happen very often. As irritating as that incident was, it's the first time someone has pulled something like that on me and the image of a penis isn't likely to scar me for life.
(and if I had a radio show, I doubt even that would be newsworthy. This woman's radio show must be pretty crappy.)

Myspace kind of sucks as a dating site. All they have on there are either sluts or snobs.
It's like you glance a profile and conclude a girl is nice only to find out there is something mental with her or that she's unstable and probably a stalker. You can't judge people by their MySpace profiles. The ones out do harm, are the ones who lie on their profiles.

To tell the truth, I like the kind of women he likes (but I really dont like Angelina Jolie). But, I´m not dumb enough to say that to people I barely know.

What really creeps me out about this guy is that he keeps sending messages to her. This has been going on for a week. She only posted a link to his account when he wouldn't stop writing her. Before she just posted the letter with no identifying info and no link to his myspace. He also upped his messaging when he figured out she was on the radio.
He also took some of the creepier stuff off his about me section. He had a paragraph about how he knows when to back off from women if they're not interested [read: please don't get a restraining order] and how much he's learned from the show Blind Date. He also removed the part about how he wants a woman to walk on his back with stilletto's on.
He's the one who blew it out of proportion.

It's where the local FM DJ's and other talk radio shows get their show prep. One of the main reasons people tune into the show is because it strives to be relatable. That and the penis and cannibal watches.

True. They often learn the secrets from their own parents who tell them how to go around the protections. It's the parents who need to be cracked down on.
But then, there are parents who are oblivious because the child doesn't tell them anything.
Of course, this continues to prove why Myspace is a piece of worthless evil shit.
