...the movie (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brazil_(film)), not the country.
How many of you have seen it, and what did you think of it? Personally I think its one of the best films ever made. I liked how it took a somewhat lighthearted approach to the classic dystopic future society story.

Watched it a few times, and loved it. One of my all-time favourite films. I heart Brazil.

I've always meant to see it, actually... I take it that it's quite well received, then? :P

I only saw part of it, TBH, but what I did see I liked. Superb writing, acting, directing, etc. I ought to watch the whole thing sometime.

Yes. However, while it is a fantastic movie you might not like it if you're not familiar with Terry Gilliam's other movies. I'd suggest renting Fear and Loathing, Time Bandits, and The Adventures of Baron Munchausen to get you ready for watching Brazil. Brushing up on your dystopic fiction is also a good idea too. Brazil is sort of like a version of 1984 written by Kafka with a hefty dose of humor thrown in for good measure.

if you can find the Criterion edition on dvd it has 3 discs - one with the movie as released by Gilliam, one with the butchered studio re-edit, and the third has a documentary about 'The Battle of Brazil" explaining the studio butchery and the campaign to have it released in its original cut

Theres three different Criterion editions I believe. They re-released a 142 minute directors cut recently with a cleaned up wide-screentransfer on 3 disc, and single disc editions. The old one (another 3 disc) is an inferior transfer to the re-release. I got the new single disc one the other night at Fry's on sale for $17.99, a practical steal considering how outrageously expensive most Criterion DVD's are.
