Pig farmer asked to move by new next door land owner.

This Texan's family has been raising pigs on this farm for 200 years. Then these folks bought the 11 acres next door and wanted him to move. That's just plain wrong. They knew he was raising pigs on the land when they bought the property. They also called the man a liar so he is now protesting by holding pig races on his land every Friday.

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,241897,00.html

"When an Islamic group moved in next door and told Craig Baker the pigs on his family's 200-year-old Texas farm had to go, he and his swine decided to fight back.

In protest of being asked to move, Davis began staging elaborate pig races on Friday afternoons."

Initially Baker and Kamel Fotouh, the president of the 500-member Islamic Association, were on good terms. But things turned sour at a town meeting, where Baker says Fotouh insulted him by asking him to move.
...
Last Friday, more than 100 attended the pig races, and many say they don't want the mosque either. Some fear it will appear out of place and hurt their property values.

seems like this is an update. the other, past article ended with him pondering if he should still have the pig races... this one indicates the races are held weekly on Friday.

Inthe last article posted he said he would be holding the races simply because he had talked himself into a corner about it and couldn't not without losing face. He did, however, admit to being in the wrong.

Edit:

Earlier this month, Baker conceded that the Muslims probably aren't after his land, but he said he had to go through with the pig races because "I would be like a total idiot if I didn't. I'd be the laughingstock now because I've gone too far."

Bullshit, Celtlund. Clear and utter bullshit. The mosque people asked him to move his cattle from their land, land they had bought and he agreed to that. Then he went on to say that they had asked him to move from his land, which they did not, and which he has now conceded to.

"The dispute began when the association asked Baker to remove his cattle from its newly bought land. The association plans to build a mosque, community center, athletic facilities and a school.

When those two Iranian diplomats were detained by the U.S. Fox ignored the fact that they had been invited(ok yes they mentioned it in the first few sentences) but then they went on to give evidence of Iranian medling and such.

If this story was true i'd say he shouldn't have to move.

You call it an update--it sounds a lot more like revisionism to me. The timeline doesn't work out otherwise. The story about the pig races came out first and mentioned nothing about the request to move--that makes me think that the "request" popped up conveniently after the pig farmer caught shit for being a dumbass bigot.

There is nothing to support your paragraph here. The CNN story is pretty conclusive: they bought land next to his and asked him to remove his cattle from it. He did, but got the idea for some reason that they wanted him off his own land, too, so he wanted to be a douche with the pigs. The Mosque people have stated they didn't want him off his land, apologised to him if he thought they did and that they don't give a shit about the pigs, and the man has now conceded they didn't want him off his land at all, but he'll still do the pig races because he's another one of these idiots who cannot renegue no matter how wrong they are; this US craziness of "staying the course" even when they know the course is wrong. It's that simple.

This brings up a wider issue. Any farmer close to a city understands all of the problems with 5-10 acres and a horse people. They move from the city to escape the problems and bring the problems with them. They further insist that everyone live the life of a city dweller. Starting with light pollution (they all have to have a street light so no one can see the stars) to intolerance for slow moving equipment, to cutting fences so they can play with four wheelers in the pastures.

If you want to live in the city---stay in the city.

Fuck the neighbour. Make him squeal. :)

EDIT: Might as well express my opinion..

That pig farmer was there first. Plain and simple. If the new land owner didn't want to live next the a pig farm, he should have actually checked out the area he was planning on buying land in. You can't just walk in to some place and demand they change everything for the new kid.

There is something like this going on around here with the boy scout camp and a new home owner. She claims they make too much noise. It's her fault that she chose to live next to a place that gets a little loud on the weekends. She sued the camp. If I was the judge in that case, I would laugh at her and tell her if she didn't want to live next to a some-what noisey place, you should have done your homework.

I would tell that new land owner that if he wanted the pig farmer to move, then he should pay for it.

1) 'Asking' someone to do something is some kind of crime?

2) According to the source you found (later), the farmer makes a claim he admits he has no witnesses for, and suggests he deliberately decided to position pigs near his muslim neighbours purely to upset them.

3) The consensus seems to be that the story was mostly fabrication, anyway.

Well, if the story were accurate, then it would be an example of uncouth behavior and might warrant a local story. What made this a story in the first place was the assholish behavior of the pig farm owner who thought he'd play to the xenophobia of his neighbors by doing the pig races. The story since then seems largely this guy trying to come up with a way where he looks less like an asshole than he did before.

Nothing - the 'natives' are looking like racist assholes who have decided to take the war-on-islam as a personal credo.

Why, exactly? Because, you know, in pretty much every variation of the story you find the Muslim group reminding people that they simply don't eat pork-they're not offended by pigs, afraid of them, worship them, think they're evil, or really give a rats ass what other people do with them-they just don't happen to eat pork. The only humor I can see that can be derived from this is the backwater moronic mentality that thinks somehow doing anything with pigs would have any effect.
