I've started moving my porn collection, all 6GB of it, from a WinRAR file to a regular folder. Paranoia about my parents finding it aside, it was just taking too long to add, remove and rename the files in the archive.

If you want to embarass someone, go to their computer and mess with the Recent Document menu.

I don't have to worry about my parents finding my yaoi collection because I either burnt them to a disk and gave it an ambiguous name or they have no access to my computer.

All you got to do is just convince your parents to get their own computer.

No mater how many files you hide it inside, if you´ve clicked it twice, its there.Regedit is your friend. If it's too great a task to waste 15 mins of your life figuring out how to configure windows thru the reg, you can always spend 5-6 times as much time downloading windows tweaking programs & how you don't accidentally misconfigure something.

EDIT: By the way.. Why would it be a problem if your parents found your porn collection? You can't seriously believe they don't already know you have one.

find / -name *.jpg

... and you're busted.

WinRAR won't make movies or jpegs any smaller, which is what it's for. You'll get stuff in and out of archives quicker with no compression there, if you absolutely must use a compression program as a stopgap encryption measure.

The things in Recent Documents are shortcuts, they live in C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\My Recent Documents. You'd need "show hidden files" turned on, but it's easier than regedit.

Best of all, put a shortcut to your porn folder right there on the desktop, and rename it "My secret porn stash -- MUM N DAD KEEP OUT" then you can share the fun. Who knows, another one might appear next to it, full of wrinklie porn.

Then presto, your porn is in a hidden folder. I Googled it for Windows, and there are a bunch of programs that do the same thing, but they do not tell you what they do.

Right-click start button, properties. Then click customize. For XP mode, go to advanced, and clear the recent documents list. For Classic mode, just click clear.

In windows you can just go to the properties menu for a certain folder and make it and all the files in it hidden. That way, someone could only find it if they already knew it was there.

*nods* also what kills you is what's in the temp files as well. do a search for things like all MPegs, AVI or whatever file type you use... include all subfolders and hidden subfolders.

Never Assume that your parents are too dumb to find it. I've seen idiots who can't turn on a computer do things that still make me shake my head in disbelief. Dumb luck can work on the side of the 'rents.

It's easy on windows. Create a folder in Temporary Internet Files, and put everything there.
