Tennessee collects a tax on all illegal drugs sold. The current tax on cocaine is $50/gram. Who the fuck can afford that? No wonder folks living out in the country use methamphetamines instead.

the law allows them to seize the property of drug dealers without criminal due process. they violate TAX law and they forfeit their stuff immediately.

no one thinks that any drug dealer is ever going to register and pay the tax.

Well if you get caught with coke and can't proved you paid the tax they'll sell your stuff to get the money(or just take the money). It's actually rather ingenius. The state now gets money for every drug dealer they arrest. Sneaky bastards.

If you showed up and proved you had paid taxes for it, would that mean you can get the drugs back?

I hope so. It would suck if you had a kilo that you paid tax on and they were like: "Well sense we found it you have to pay a new quarterly tax that we just made up so that we can fuck drug dealers more"! I would be bent. :upyours:

I feel the same way about weed. I mean sleep is over rated who wants to use a drug that will make you pass out.

It doesn't make you addictive as cocain does. It's not lethal and it's impossible to take an overdose. But if you take cocain you'll probably get addicted and there's a long way back from there.

I understand that it might cause an addiction as well as all the other side effects. But I find that if you are going to use drugs then you better be a mature person who knows how much you can handle. I am not trying to start and argument just disagree with the fact that you believe others should suffer a tax for using the drug they fancy the most.

I don't think cocaine should be legal at all. It usually works that way that you get a very cheap first sample of the drug untill you get addictive and then they can price you how much they want. I would of course rather want the goverment to sell the drug, because of safety and quality issues, instead of drug dealers but I fear that the addiction would go up big times.

For complicated legal reasons, tax evasion is the easiest thing to convict someone of. Nearly all of the organized crime people are not convicted of their crimes, they are convicted of tax evasion. One of the old mobsters used to list millions on his taxes as "miscellaneous income", so if the Feds found it they couldn't say he didn't pay taxes on it. All income, even illegal, must be reported on your Fed income tax.

There is another angle also. Usually taxes on drugs is shown with stamps. Stamp collectors buy the stamps. The state gets the money and it only costs them the printing. Just like the post office encourages stamp collecting so they get money for doing nothing.

Well I know some people that have been addicted to drugs and they all tell me the same thing. It's actually a very smart move from the drug dealers. They give away some free samples and then they have a regular customer.
