Are packages ALWAYS meant to take this long?

Ordered a package from the States, it was shipped last Friday, and still hasn't arrived. According to tracking, it's been with the courier for the last 3 days, but nobody's delivered it. Last time I ordered, it took two days. Then again, this is more stuff that before. And it is the Christmas rush still.

Is DHL reliable?

No clue, but I read the title as "are packages always this long" and thought the thread was about...something else.

kernel image packages take a long time too. but if you set the options correctly, it is quite worth it.

Just how big was the package, and what did it contain? If it was electronics or something I could see that causing a shipping delay so they can check it.

DHL isn't that great in my opinion....stick with UPS or FedEx in the future.

I own a bookstore, and we ship packages all around the world. Shipping international is entertaining, since all that can be guaranteed is the actual shipping time. Customs is another story...they can take as long as they want to release a package. Sometimes it's quick, sometimes it's not.

Additionally, it is the holiday season, and shipments will be slow for at least another two to three weeks. Generally you want to take the average shipping time for a package and triple or quadruple it, this time of year.

Hmm...

I know the USPS had an extal long weekend with New Years and Ford's funeral. Don't know if that affected DHL. They did manage to get me my airline ticket just in time for my Xmas trip in 2005 (about 16 hours before I had to leave).

I guess some of it could be called electronics... it's stuff from ThinkGeek.

I usually just choose DHL because it's a bit cheaper.

Also, by "With Delivery Courier", I take it that it's out of customs and just needs to be delivered.

That's only one week ago!

That's not long by any stretch of the imagination!

Even though the Australian mail seems to be extraordinarily quick to get to the US from what I've seen (enviably so, considering that you guys are much further away from it than we in Europe) that doesn't mean that it's just as hyper-speedy in the other direction, too.

And even so, one week would be really fast!

For comparison: sending a mere letter from Germany to California has yet to take under 9 days for me.

Wouldn't it be "with delivery courier" from the moment it got handed to them in the US?

has it left the united states? where was it shipped from. there are places that had some brutal weather starting last thursday that might have slowed things down some.

it also depends on what class they sent it. they might have saved money by sending it on the cheapest rate which can make things just that slow.

call dhl and see what they have to say about it.

I've never had bad luck with DHL delivering a package. They don't seem to update their tracking info as frequently as I would like, though.

One job I did in India took FedEx overnight service 5 days to deliver to us.

Got it :D

Turns out, it was stuck in customs because my friend ordered a high-tech ant farm, and customs had to check in case it came with ants (it didn't, or course).

Some of the stuff I got. To the left of the monitor, my Wee Pocket Ninja. Left of that, my Plushie Head Lice. The blue thing to the right of the monitor is my Plushie Common Cold. And underneath it all, my Deskpad.
