What with a special "Green Wing" tonight and all. I'm not sure how many Americans would have heard of the comedies over here. I love Green Wing, Black Books, The Office (there was an American version), Extras etc..

How well did The Office do in America? Oh Shaun of the Dead as well, hilarious.

Scrubs is good, (why are hosipitals such good settings for comedies?) I don't care what everyone says: Everybody Loves Raymond is crap, how did it win so many Emmy's?

Oh and of course: Friends. Not a big fan, but it's alright. Haha Joey was so bad. I don't really know much about American sit-coms, erm King of Queens? Not very good.

Don't tell me I'm the only one who watches sit-coms.

The American version of The Office does very well. I don't watch it myself but it is quite popular. I'm sorry you don't appreciate American sit-coms. You're missing a truly unique cultural experience. In times to come, people will look back on the American sit-coms of the late 20th and early 21st centuries and shake their heads in wonder at the sheer comic brilliance of those shows. People will name their children after characters from Everybody Loves Raymond, Joey, Friends, Will & Grace. Obviously you live in a barbaric nation that needs to be invaded by the righteous forces of America. Would next week be good for you? We have an opening on the 11th, between 10:30 and 13:45 GMT.

Hey I like the American version of the Office. I've seen Everybody Loves Raymond and it simply isn't funny. Joey was a flop. Friends is alrite, like I said. Will and Grace, hmmm I've seen bits but again, it doesn't grap me, its not new or fresh the humours been done. I like weirder stuff, such as Green Wing.

You forgot Frasier and Cheers. When I was young I only watched Frasier so that I could say up later and listen to the guy singing whilst the credits rolled. That was a cool song. Then I actually started to get most of the jokes and enjoyed the program on both levels.

There is a bit of a restructuring of the sit-com that is on par with The Cosby Show's revival of the sit-com in the 80s.

Mostly it revolves around location based filming rather than set based 'live studio audience.' Aaron Sorkin sort of spearheaded this a bit with Sportsnight (and me with my failed Community College sit-com...but anyway...), but the vanguard of the 'new sitcom' can be seen on NBCs Thursday night line up with My Name is Earl, The Office, Scrubs, and the less well done but I root for it anyway 30 Rock. Interestingly enough you can see the 'old' sit-com for comparison on the same channel with 20 Good Years, which is just downright awful. Not War at Home awful, but awful. The pinnacle of the modern sit-com got canceled because Fox sucks, Arrested Development was a slice of genius.

The office does well over here, though I don't watch it. I like Scrubs, and loved MASH and News Radio. Beyond that I don't care for sitcoms.

America can play the trump card of Seinfeld if you want to talk sitcoms. Nobody should love Raymond though, that's awful.

I think both countries are suffering from a lack of quality at the moment though, the most popular comedies in Britain (Catherine Tate, Little Britain, whatever crap is on Friday nights on BBC1) are all awful. It's not much better the other side of the atlantic.

Scrubs and Extras are imperfect but they're the best of a bad bunch and tellingly, they aren't conventional sitcoms.

I love british sit- coms. I hate when America tries to duplicate them. Just run the british versions damn you! ::shakes fist at American Brodcasting at large::

I hated the American version, but it was better than the American versions of Coupling and Red Dwarf. The American version of Red Dwarf was an abortion. Shaun of the Dead is fantastic.

Scrubs is good, (why are hosipitals such good settings for comedies?) I don't care what everyone says: Everybody Loves Raymond is crap, how did it win so many Emmy's?
Scrubs is one of the best American Sit- Coms.

Ray Romano must have major blackmail on someone, that's what I figure. I will dance on his grave when he dies.

Friends is ass. King of Queens is ass. My favorte American sitcom is Entourage followed by the Arrested Development. Dead Like Me was also a great series. Aaron Sorkin is a genius. I'm not a fan of building a story around jokes and comedic situations, I like it when they start with a good story. American comedy by and large does not do this.

That's what I get for watching You Can't Do That On Television as a child.

Fox has never seen a brilliant show they didn't cancel.

Apparently that's their marketing strategy. I still mourn the loss of Firefly and Millenium. Although to be fair, Chris Carter polished the shine of that series in the 3rd season.

Usually, sit-coms suck. Ok, there are a few, but less than 1%. Why? Because americans seem to produce sitcoms like they were farting.

For every good sit-com (Seinfeld, Friends, Scrubs and a few others) there are dozens who are so bad it hurts.

So, I usualy stay away from them.

I friggin love that show! I didn't think anyone else would know it. I'm loving that whole circle of fun Tamsin Grieg-Simon Pegg etc. Oh and Dylan Moran.

Curb Your Enthusiasm as well, how could I forget? Seinfield, again I've only seen the odd bit so I never get the jokes (or they are really bad). They Seinfeld I've seen is about a guy trying to lose his job and failing: it was really bad.

Frasier is good, I think Cheers is alright but Frasier was the best character so Frasier <3, lol.

Anyone whos seen Green Wing: the scene with the electric organ in the operating theatre pwns!

Don't tell me I'm the only one who watches sit-coms.the American Version of "the Office" is... alright, but I don't watch it.

the comedies on now that I do watch...

Studio 60 on the Sunset strip (ok, maybe not comedy, but it's got alot of moments in it in my opinion.)
My Name is Earl (not much for slapstick, but I like the philosophy of the show.)

That's about it. Monty Python and Benny Hill pretty much made everything else bland.
