The Logic Behind Doomsaying?

Is there any. We have three threads already on good 'ol Patty's predictions of "mass killings", "sometime in September of 2007", which "may or may not involve nuclear weapons" and "may effect several major cities". The only reason I make a new thread now is because the discussion has already, rightfully so, gone funny.

Now it seems to me that in this particular "prediction" that he is trying to be as vague as possible in order to scare the most people. By not giving an exact target, he's trying to frighten every living person from Honolulu to Anchorage to Los Angeles to New York. And even though I know better than to believe this dickwad, the very idea that this man is talking about terrorist attacks like a divine intervention disturbs me greatly

What I want to know is: Does Pat Robertson, or any of his other asshat friends, actually believe in the hatred and fearmongering that they spew forth, or is it just to attract publicity: Is he hoping that by scaring all these people that he will attract them to his "club", and "salvation"? Or do they simply like to scare people like schoolyard bullies? Are they addicted to the power that intimidation gives them, like how Fred Phelps is addicted to hate?

Seriously...where does this guy, or any other, get off?

They are real life trolls. If you ignore them, they go away. But, people don't, so, like a parasite on the slimy underbelly of humanity, these little trolls continue to fester and rot anything that was otherwise good about humanity.

ya know, i think they might delude themselves into believeing their stupid prophesies.

if not, its a pretty safe bet that something bad is going to happen this year. if he makes it vague enough, he is automatically right.

Like Nostradammus...

It's scary enough that there are people who believe these crackpots...it becomes terrifying if the prophets themselves believe what they are saying. It's men and women like that that are capable of anything.

The bathroom?

:D

Sorry, I've always wanted to say the same thing in my posts, but never did, because I knew that some jerk off would call me out...

Well, Nostradamus' prophecies were essentially self-fulfilling. Still, it is kinda scary...

Through his deep spiritual connection with God, Mr. Robertson is able to gain an slimmer of insight into the future which God has created for us. However, his powers of prediction obviously pale in comparison to those of our Lord; he is but a humble man doing God's will, not God himself. Therefore, he can foresee events only with a certain degree of vagueness; however, that should not detract from the veracity of his prophecies.

Please. The animal psychic lady and that Edwards guy are more accurate than Roberts. Are you saying they have a deeper connection w/ god?

probably part because they want the power and part because they are crazy.

Robinson has no clue what he's talking about. Personally, I think he could actually believe what he's saying, caught up in the idea that he has some connection to God, and hoping that people will believe him, and think higher of him.

He leaves his 'predictions' vague because that way if there is no disaster, then at the end of the year, he can claim that someone who went postal in a public school was the "terrorist", and he upscaled God's message because of his own human flaws, or something.

I imagine Pat Robertson really does believe that the Lord God Almighty spoke to him personally and told him these things. I'm sure he does believe it. And you're quite right, Ashmoria, keeping it vague will guarantee him a hit somewhere along the line. For instance, how massive does a "mass killing" have to be to fulfill the prophecy?

Oh please, people have been predicting another big terrorist attack on the US since 9/11. I don't think you need a "deep spiritual connection to God" to see that there's no reason why such an attack won't come in 2007.

It's an excersise in increasing his power base. Consider this -

I predict that terrorists will attack in 2007 using an unknown method. Now I know the chances of this are fairly high given the current state of the world.

so:
If the terrorists do attack anywhere near when I predicted then I gain support from the brainless sheep that suck up this kind of nonsense (like nostradamus addicts)

If the terrorists do not make any significant attack then I can claim my warning was heeded and that the righteous have prevailed. I will get a lesser increase in following but those that already believe me will be prepared to accept this and there will also be a few that are swayed into thinking that I managed to change the preset course by announcing what god had told me.

So, all in all it's a blatant and cheap shot but sadly it's going to work. Simply because there are enough stupid people out there who will believe anything.
