Woman murders her brother with odd weapon

A woman used God to kill her brother and is now being sued by her relatives. The woman is a televangelist who claims God heals people suffering from various ailments including cancer. Her brother got the throat cancer, and she convinced him to pray the sick away. It didn't work. He died.

Can you sue faith healers for malpractice? I think you should be able to. Maybe they should be forced to carry malpractice insurance like doctors.

Well, let's see here. We can sue God for criminal negligence and this faith healer...ah, probably manslaughter and criminal stupidity. What's that you say? Stupidity isn't a crime? Fuck. Well, just the manslaughter, which in Britain carries a sentence of, what, two hours in jail?

It was his own fault for listening and not accepting his medical regiment. How can anyone sue anyone in this case? This moron died because he listened to a faith healer. If anything, we should now have commercials that show him and speak of how he died trying to pray to God, and how God is an asshole who won't heal you because you're a snivelling assbag who won't take his damn meds.

An hour and a half with parole, which is just long enough for them to force you to watch House of the Dead. Remarkably enough, it has brought a call for the return of state executions on the part of Criminal Rights Advocates.

Damn, I should sue god for making me born with a beard that gives me psychological damage because I have to shave it a lot of times.

And the church should pay me monthly values to pay for blades, foam and laser surgery to get rid of hair.

In what jurisdiction are you talking about? And "sue" and "criminal negligence" don't go together.

Good old irrationalists...

Its like the Jehovah Witness loons...deny medical treatment while you watch your child die...lovely.

I wonder if the woman had a lapse of faith? (most likely the excuse used to make everything allllllright).

Nutters. The lot of 'em.

I'd sooner rule it suicide than murder. If people are stupid enough to believe everything people tell them it's their own responsibility.

When you're dealing with God, you're better off suing than trying to have Him thrown in jail.

Well, anyway, yeah, she has to take some responsibility if the accusations are true, but he was being quite the idiot. Still, it's still manslaughter if bth victim and criminal were beings tupid, like in this case.

i believe a judge can judge them to be bad parents and temporarily drop their parenting rights so the children can get medical treatment, at least they can do that here.

If the guy was legally sane, then what's the problem. He must've known the 'cure' would be about as effective as a glass of water, yet he went for it anyway. It's his own damn fault.

Making money off selling people snakeoil, however.. That should carry a sentence in & of itself.

You make the mistake of thinking that people who have religion that bad are actually sane.

I don't think a law suit is the answer, if one wants to give homeopatheic remedies( Or God) a go let them, but God must have given him the Cancer for a reason then.

Dont. Hair sucks. Of course, being bald sucks much more, but having a beard means nothing related to hair.

And there is nothing cool about a beard. It doesnt make you look cooler, wise, older or anything. It makes you look uglier and dirtier.

I sure wish I didnt had a beard. I waste 80 minutes/week taking it of.

The only places a man should have hair is in the top of one head, and in the base of the other.

Punishing their stupidity for believeing he'd bother to heal their cancer.

Yes, its more of a family thing.

My motherĀ“s side is made of polish imigrants, and they are all haired. Which is somewhat good, because none of them is bald. Not to mention the very long life spam they have.

My fatherĀ“s side, on the other hand, has a lot of balds (my father included), and hardly any body hair at all.

Usually asian, african and indian descendents dont have a lot of hair.

Totally agree. I have very little sympathy for people who do things like this and then are surprised when it doesn't work out. If faith healing and prayer worked, you'd think the popes would be the healthiest mofos around but look what happened to the last pope...

BTW, did anyone see the CBC documentary done on Benny Hinn, the faith healer? It was pretty interesting, he's quite the scammer. The most disturbing part was the idiots who would drag their severely handicapped or disease-stricken kids from show to show hoping that one day, he'd decide to heal their children. They and Benny Hinn need a punch in the gonads.

Can I sue an astrologist if she tells me not to go on any trips this month and I lose my job for cancelling a business trip?

This guy was an adult. He chose to forego treatment. No matter who else thought he should do so, he made the decision. If his children didn't like it, they should have tried to convince him otherwise.

Not in the US under current legal precedent, although that was once the case. A parent can refuse medical treatment for children for religious reasons. Interestingly enough, a parent who honors his 16-year old son's wishes and opts to get him alternative treatments prompts legal action, while a Jehovah's Witness who refuses blood transfusions for a young child does not.

That sounds funny, and only because it's the 21st century, and people actually think that praying to God will heal them, and that medical science won't do squat.

Of course, I feel bad for the person with the ailment, but not if they choose to be stupid about it and pray.

There were a couple of studies done that showed two different groups of sick people, and those who had recently undergone surgery, and it found that over half of those who prayed and/or were prayed for died sooner and didn't recover as well as those who didn't pray and/or were prayed for.

Those who survived while praying, or prayed for, just had very good medical treatment and it was a coincidence that God didn't decide to end their miserable existences there because they could only pray to him. As if God's inbox isn't already teeming with unsolicited spam.

Actually, the last pope was pretty healthy, for an old guy.
Try the pope before him. Heart attack after, what, one hour as pope?
At least he didn't do anything stupid as pope, like everyone else does.

This reminds me of the Case of Anneliese Michel a girl that was believed to possessed by Demons by her family and two local priests, but was simply thought to have epilepsy/some other, similar disability that causes erratic behaviour by doctors.

She abandoned her treatment in favour of an attempted exorcism by the priests, but it failed, killing her instead. And so there was a long and boring trial attempting to sentence the priests to jail for manslaughter, they eventually were found guilty, but were sentenced to only 6 months probation.

Here is the wiki link for more info on it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anneliese_Michel
