remember the thread i started about how my manager didnt know who saddam hussein was until we started talking about him?

well, under the counsel of a few of you, i asked her if she knew who george w. bush was. she answered with an emphatic yes and started asking her if i thought she was stupid, etc. etc. well, while we were talking, another employee came up and started to talk to both of us about it.... when he brought up this question:

do you know where the war is taking place?

to which she answered I DONT KNOW.

... seriously, can she possibly be any less intelligent!

Doesn't say much about her intelligence, she's just uninformed.

Some people like to be ignorant. It makes life seem all rosy and fluffy and full of kittens and candy canes.

Meh, that's nothing.

I worked with someone whom had never heard of Communism, AT ALL(In any form), didn't know who Fidel Castro was, and didn't know where Cuba was, and had no idea what the USSR was.

So, meh.

So? Does that mean she has to keep up with current events? No.
If she's taking political courses it might be advisable to keep informed, but otherwise I don't see the pressing need.

True. You also would have to be completely deaf to not here anybody talking about it.

the war has been going on for 3 years... its kind of hard to not know that kind of information about one's own country when there have constantly been news reports about it thanks to the US's ability to overhype everything

I think you'll find that if you avoid watching the news and don't pay attention to the papers, you can easily remain uninformed about just about anything.
I know that because I tend to do that myself now and then for several months at a time when I'm going through periods of depressions. Watching the news would send me over the edge sometimes.

I'm glad I'm not the only person saying so.

Seeing such ignorance is depressing, though...

From that post I guessed you were Australian (or possibly New Zealander) before even glancing at your location.

I would hope that most people have at least a rough idea of where Timore-Leste and the Solomons are. (I know exactly where they are, but then I like to know a bit about every country.)

Definitely. And it's terribly common, unfortunately.

I think she phased out before the first Gulf War ended. So I guess she might think there's STILL a war on...

Doesn't suprise me in the least.

President Bush doesn't know much and he's the leader of the U.S.
Pakistan is a U.S. allie in the 'War on Terror' yet Bush doesn't know who the leader of Pakistan is either!:headbang:

Damn, does anybody inside the U.S. know where Pakistan is?

There are some differences between ignorance, disinformation and plain stupidity...

While I think all of them are excusable, the first two should be also self recognized as well as one can correct them...

I consider myself ignorant (A lot ignorant...) on politic events, both of my nation and international ones... Is due to a radicate disinterest in the matter... So there are many peoples like me I think... When you haven't control about something you can also decide to not get interest in it...
