The "Troll Starvation Alliance"
Not naming names, but every time a troll, be it a right-winger, left-winger, Christian Fundamentalist, Islamist, anti-American, superpatriot, Communist, capitalist, fascist, social-darwinist, homophobe, heterophobe, xenophobe, racist, anarchist, misogynist, "feminazi", or general asshat...I hear some saying "do not feed the trolls", but many others trying to refute the guys...even though it is nigh impossibe to change ANY of their opinions.
So, I am creating a "Troll Starvation Alliance". Members of the alliance will, upon sighting a clearly trollish thread (some are very well masked), will completely ignore it, refusing to give the troll the satisfaction of attention that they're trying to garner with their outrageous threads.
I know it's hard not to...we're all temped to try to refute the trolls. It's damned easy, and sometimes fun...I am NOT anti-fun...but all we're doing is empowering them. So why not take away that ammo?

I tend to ignore those threads anyway. I don’t like arguing with a brick wall. Though, sometimes I post inane pictures in those thread, and I can't promise not to tease a troll when they show up in other people's threads.
Nah, trolls are fun. When else can we be so right with so little effort? It's great.

I know...but the first part of getting over a problem is admitting that you have one...
I kid! I kid!

If you get rid of the trolls, what next?

Trolls are like local color, like the village idiots. As long as they don't take over city hall, they're good for a laugh from time to time. I'd hate to see a forum completely free of trolls.

I'll join, as long as I still get to observe and laugh.

Oh, absolutely. Trolls in my opinion are like animals at a zoo...Look, but don't touch...if you get my metaphor.

A forum completly full of them would be pretty full of lose also.
Actually, I got shit to do, so I'll be back.

Trolls are quite fun I think, and the forum is hardly full of them so there isn't really any danger. The only troll I can actually think of still posting on NSG is Criik.

I love trolls. This forum would be a lesser place without them. :)

Trolls help me realize what good decisions I've made with my life. It's pleasant.
I like trolls only because they tend to draw people into the forum, and it seems like they just disappear after two or three posts anyway.
Every now and then though you have to look at what they're saying to see whether it's actually offensive or if you were just offended.:D
Cannot think of a name

I don't know how fun trolls really are, I mean, even they don't really believe what they're saying. They're just being asshats to get people riled up in some sort of moronic, "Huh huh, I said something offensive and people got offended. I'z a genius..." thing. Sure, you can 'shred' their arguments, but only because they're not playing in good faith. Their goal isn't to refute you, but to continue to say stupid shit to you and get you riled up. No matter how piercing your argument, it's more fun for the troll than anyone else because he or she doesn't give a shit about the argument being had and only about pissing you off.

I won't starve the trolls for the same reason most people won't vote for a third party in the US: It won't do any good unless a majority does it.

it depends on where you stand....trolls don't think they're trolls, they think everyone else are trolls.....who decides who is a troll, you?....
and where's the fun in not slamming trolls....I'll pass on a alliance...

How am I a troll? Isnt a troll someone who doesnt actually believe what they say?
I don't think I'll be joining this. I love the ridiculous things people say too much to put an end to it; it's almost impossible to offend me.

According to Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_troll), a troll is "a person who enters an established community such as an online discussion forum and intentionally tries to cause disruption, often in the form of posting messages that are inflammatory, insulting, or off-topic, with the intent of provoking a reaction from others."
Nowhere is it really integral that to be a troll you have to not believe what you say. Though many trolls don't, some do.

Every time you get philosophical in a discussion about trolls, God kills a newbie...please think of the newbies...
Whatever works is cool.

It's a moderated forum.
Anyway, all to often I see people using the term troll simply because they do not approve of another poster's standpoint. Yes, it might be offensive or whatever, but that does not necessarily make it trolling.
In fact, the whole troll label is usually just an excuse for intellectual laziness or hypocrisy,

Everyone on this forum calls me a troll, despite the fact that it's not an extreme view to be against gay civil unions, or to criticize liberalism.
First they came for the trolls. I did nothing.
Then they came for the smilies. I still did nothing.
Then they came for me. No one did anything.
Not cool man, not cool.

I think you mean "an extreme VIEW" unless you are also against good English?

Calling someone a troll is a personal attack. If you feel that strongly about it report whoever did it to the moderators.
Or, you can be like me, and realize that it is the intertubes, and none of this means squat anyway.

So what you are suggesting is: Which ever thread gets you riled up, don't post in it.
Yeah. Good luck with that.
