A 67-year-old Spanish woman is reported to have given birth to twins according to hospital officials in Barcelona, becoming the world's oldest mother.
*blink* And it's also the "first"... oO; Seems odd to me...
Then again... good for her if she wants to start taking care of two screaming brats at her age.

If I was a doctor, I would not help her. She is too old. The dangers to the kid are too high. And what about the kid? The kid will barely be a teen when her mother dies.

babies take an enormous effort to deal with. most grandparents of 67 can only put up with their little grandchildren for an hour or so and then they send them back.

why not? no one objects when men become fathers at that age, men are usually praised for the accomplishment......

Because as a woman increase in age, the possibility of fetus problems, genetic disorders and malformation also increases exponentialy.
Even women in their 30´s already have far bigger chances of bearing children with problems compared to young women in their 20´s.
You see, the female body is ready to bear children from when they are 13 or 14. Their best age to have children is 19-25, biologicaly speaking.
Of course, due to our current society, it doesnt happen often. Maybe that is why more and more babies are born with genetic and physical problems.
The deal is that men are constantly creating sperm, while women have their ovum since the womb. This cell stays alive for years, until it either dies or get fertilized. But the older the woman is, the bigger the chance that this ovum (that is there since before childbirth) already suffered some kind of damage.
Also, as the woman get older, her body start to lack hormones, nutrients, and that means the fetus may not get the nutrition it needs.
You see, when a woman stops to menstruate, its the way nature tells us that her body is not fit to bear children anymore. Yet, we artificialy go against nature and make women who arent fit to have babies anymore bear children.
