Cold Pizza

So, I'm normally a big fan of cold pizza. In fact it is one of my alltime favorite things to eat for breakfast. But I'm sitting here, muching a cold pizza hut pepperoni, and it's vile. Some Pizza Hut has managed to make their pizza inedible when cold. Which is a crime against fast food pizza. I think it has to with the cheese/crust/toppings ratio.

So, what do you think of cold Pizza?

Little Ceasars does indeed make a good cold pizza. Although I have my gripe with them to (wow I'm whiny tonight). Everytime I go in for one of "Hot and Ready" pizzas, they aren't ready. Fifteen minutes, every damn time. I think they missed the memo about having them ready. I go into LC's in another town, I can walk in and buy a pizza, I go here, I walk in, ask for a pizza, and come back in in 15 minutes.

yeah. but i think the intent is to have a good hot pizza, and i dont think that any pizza chain does it too well to be honest.

I haven't had Little Caesars in years. Hell, I don't even really remember WHERE I last had it. It MIGHT have been Oxnard California, though it may more probably have been Middletown Ohio.

But I don't think anyone can call pizza fast food. Even the swiftest made pizza takes fifteen minutes.

Hence the hot and ready...

Ever wondered how long it takes KFC to fry it's chicken? Breading, frying, all that jazz. Doesn't sound fast.

Or how long it takes McDonalds to fit that much grease into a cardboard cutout of a hamburger patty? I'm still not sure it should be possible.

A) Pizza is never ready when you want it. And as soon you walk in wanting a coke, they'll have piles of it.

B) I have it on pretty good authority that KFC chicken takes 16 minutes to cook(16 actually in the oil). Breading a full batch is supposed to take about five minutes. A good cook can do it in three. The fastest I've ever seen was a minute and forty-three seconds. Yes, I work at a KFC.

C)McDonalds is gross. Stay back.

I worked at Wendy's for quite a while, so while I hardly have the broadest picture of the fast food industry, I can safely say that most of the work is already done for us.
All we do is either cook the patties on the grill then put them in the sandwiches, or fry up the chicken and put them in the sandwiches. And the frying doesn't take that long: seven minutes for the spicy and regular(chicken filet); four minutes for the crispy, and about ten minutes for the grilled. Thing is, we keep several on hand in heated drawers above the sandwich station so that we don't run out. (Of course we only keep them in the drawer for so long, with a healthy safety margin to prevent health hazards.) The grill has several heated rows where both the 2 oz--the small meat for Junior burgers, doublestacks, and the like--and the 4 oz--the larger meat for the main burgers--can sit for a while. Any meat that's still there when the timer runs out on them is placed in the drawer up high above the grill--at 181 degrees Farenheit--to be placed in the chili later. As for fries and chicken nuggest--and chicken strips--we have a whole area where we keep them, and keep them fresh. (A seven minute timer on fries and a thirty minute timer on nuggest and strips before they must be replaced. Cooking wise, it's three minutes on the fries and four minutes thirty seconds on the nuggest and strips.)

Okay, so that might have been a bit too much explanation wise, but you get the idea. Fast food peeps do everything they can to make sure that it really does happen quickly. Most of the work is already done: all we do is heat it up real fast and put it together. Pizzas cannot be made like that, nor would I want one to be made like that. That's why it takes at least fifteen minutes, and why I cannot call a pizza place a fast food business.

true. i work a little caesars. the one i work, however, actually takes pride in its toppings. we get the ingredients for the sauce and hand mix it, we hand make our dough, and we cook our pizzas and let them sit for only a little while.

yes, the toppings are all precut and the cheese is preblended, but the dough and the sauce parts make it all worthwhile.

Your first problem is in thinking that Pizza Hut's food product is actual pizza.
You really need 1) a better chain to frequent (Bertucci's is good if you can find it) or a 2) Mom n Pop pizzeria, either New York style (the best) or Chicago style (a more than worthy rival).

But yeah, cold GOOD pizza for breakfast FTW.

And greasy takeaway pizza after a night out (y'know, from the kebab shops) is even better. And cheaper. But not quite so good cold.

We are unfortunatley stuck mostly with large chains. There is one most excellent mom and pop pizzera here. The problem being that it is far out of my price range. I just went with the best coupon. Hurray for being a poor student.

cold pizza sucks. How come no one ever goes on about, say, cold lasagna, cold steak or cold chicken fried rice? Because foods that are meant to be eaten hot taste crappy when cold, and the only reason people think otherwise is when you're hungover and chugging coffee and lazy you'll eat anything, including a cold steak.

All of those things are really nice (perhaps with the exception of cold lasagne, I haven't tried it), especially cold steak. In a sandwich. Oh yes.

You might have a point with cold cuts. Still, pizza is meant to be hot, so the cheese can be drippy and gooey. Cold pizza is like... warm beer.

I'll have to agree with you on the New York style being the best. See, there's a pizzeria about fifteen miles from my house called Locatelli's. They emigrated from NYC (I'm guessing Brooklyn) several years ago to start their pizzeria here, and it has to be the best pizza I've ever eaten.

First of all, everything they use is fresh. They make their own sauce and sausage (which is mashed nice and flat), their cheese is made with whole milk (so, so good) and their vegetables are never pre-sliced. All in all, the pizza takes about an hour to make, but it's totally worth it.

I'd love to take home some pizza from that place, but it's extremely difficult... See, it's so good that I can't keep from finishing all of it. I usually have four or five slices (and they're big slices), my brother has around three or four, and my cousin has about three... My uncle, well, he has two, maybe three. The last time we ate there, we finished off two of their biggest pizzas, so you get the picture. :p
