Help a Computard:Firefox...

So, Firefox has been installing the same update for a little while now. No big deal. It's also had "problem loading sites" which also hasn't been a big deal.
But now, when it installed the update, it erased my theme and took away my beloved Stumble bar and Google toolbar. None of my extensions or add-ons or whatever show up as an option. I found them, they're still on the computer in a file somewhere, but I don't know how to remind Firefox to use them.
This theme is boring, Google toolbar has a better spell checker, and Stumble is my reason to live. Please help.

I'm guessing you installed Firefox 2.0+ and all the modifications you had on previous versions were not included. If that's the case, you have no choice but to go and manually re-install them again.

I had 2.0 for a while, this was some sort of 2.0.1 type thing that kept re-installing itself. I don't know how to re-install all the plug ins and stuff. They don't show up in the toolbar options, I can find them in folders though seperate of Firefox.

Weird. Hopefully for you someone more motivated to play the Good Samaritan will come along.

You can download stuff here (https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/).

I know where the downloads are, it's just that they're all still here from the last time I downloaded them, they're all in folders but for some reason Firefox isn't looking in them anymore. I need to find a way to remind Firefox to do that like it used to, because I seriously don't want to have to resetup Stumble. Gah, I just realized my FoxyTunes isn't here either. I'm just going to walk into the ocean now...

Look, the stuff in those folders you're looking at don't matter anymore. Firefox 2 is supposed to be more magically awesome than 1.x.x. It's supposed to be so awesome, it won't recognize any of the customized defaults you have earlier. You have no choice but to track down each of the add-ons and themes you had earlier and re-install them.

Okay, but you see...I've had 2.0 for like, a really long time. I've had this problem for an hour.
So you can see how this isn't a problem with me loading 2.0.

Oops, I misunderstood your problem. It might have to do with a certain extension that isn't written correctly. Could you be a little more descriptive about how Firefox is "installing the same update for a little while now" and what? Any specs can help. And are you using Windows or Linux?

OK, did you upgrade from 1.5 to 2.0? A lot of Firefox add-ons for 1.5 will not work with 2.0.

That's what I thought, but it turns out he/she had 2.0 for a while, and this particular problem just surfaced recently.

If they show up under the add-on menu (under tools) you can select to "Download updates"
It kicked my extensions off as well but I just had to check for updates then allow firefox to use them again.

or just download the entire app from the moz site and install from there...10 to 1 it'll recognise your settings (as it were)...
I had problems with the update as well and decided to go to the moz site...installed the new app and everything is fine...

They don't. I went to the site and checked some things, I tried re-loading the profile but it didn't work. All my bookmarks and tabs are the same, it just erased all my add-ons and themes.

I upgraded to 2.0 a while ago and had to go through and update all my add ons as well back then, including getting a new theme, dump some add ons that didn''t work with 2.0 yet and all of that.
This was some sort of 'emergency' update that installed itself, often. I'm on a Mac and my hard drive is crowded by a documentary I made in college so sometimes I have memory issues and programs reset themselves to earlier settings, like Mail, or Stumble will tell me I've seen every website there is.
But this isn't a state of being that Firefox has ever had, it's bookmarks are up to date but all the themes and add ons are not attatched.
One weird thing, one of the path thingies was right in Finder, but when I tried to trace the path it didn't work (~/library/application settings/firefox...when I used 'find' it was there, but when I traced it on the harddrive it wasn't.

That's what Firefox does. You're lucky it didn't erase all your bookmarks, it has a tendency to do that.

A google tool bar reappeared, but not my google toolbar with the all important spell checker. And still no Stumble, which is starting to make me twitch...

You might want to check Bugzilla (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/) and see if others have had this problem and if there is a patch. If not, you can get help from one of the people there. Good luck.
