Jurassic 5's "Feedback" was good, but without Cut Chemist, it just isn't the same. By the way, his CD is excellent.

Meat Loaf defies logic. His musical genre isn't popular now, hell I don't even think it was popular back when Bat Out of Hell was released. Inexplicably almost everyone adores him across the board.

I personally hate that kind of music, I despise power ballads or love songs of any kind. Yet, I think Bat Out of Hell III is fantastic. Meat Loaf must have made some deal with the devil.

Unless I was misinformed, Juno Reactor didn't put anything out this year, so there were no good albums this year. Some good tracks maybe, but no good albums.

Oh yes, I can't help myself.

It it strange because he hasn't really done anythinthing different with this album but it just seem to be good

It was pretty shitty year for music this year. The only album worth mentioning for this year is Good Clean Fun's "Crouching Tiger; Moshing Panda", but even that was only ok.

Stadium Arcadium. Somebody needs to vouch for my lovely Chilis. Sure, it's not their best, but I'll always have a place in my heart for them. Especially since "Breaking the Girl" is the song of the moment for me right now.

Album of the Year- Iron Maiden's A Matter of Life and Death. It is simply amazing, they really returned to form with this one.

Runeers Up- Stadium Arcadium, and Tool's 10,000 Days.

And for the record, when Chinese Democracy comes out, the apocalypse will follow shortly after. Good thing it will never be released.

I gave it a listen, and I just didn't like it at all.

I'd have to throw in for The Crane Wife by the Decemberists, or, Everything All the Time by Band of Horses.

Winner: Tool's 10,000 Days, easily.

Runner up: Isis - In The Absence of Truth

Honourable mentions: Mastodon - Blood Mountain; Red Sparowes - Every Red Heart Shines Towards The Red Sun (though it's not as good as their first album).

All good, but I don't think 10,000 Days was that shit-hot.

A Senile Animal by the Melvins was cool, but i'm going to go with Pink by Boris...it was released towards the end of 2005 in Japan, but the rest of the world didn't see it 'till 2006, so i'm gonna say it counts.

I haven't heard the new album by Kayo Dot, but it's meant to be good, so i'll be checking it out shortly. I also liked Age of Winters by The Sword a lot.

That's all I can think of right now. I'm sure several others have passed me by.

I'd been looking forward to it for about a year, and it was better than I'd hoped for. Still not as good as Aenima, though. Maybe it wasn't truly great, but I can't think of a single truly great album this year.

I forgot to mention Yes, Virginia by the Dresden Dolls as well. That really is a brilliant album. It gets an honourable mention.

I agree, it was better than what I was expecting (which was basically offcuts from Lateralus..but it turned out to be a proper album). Glad that you have some taste in recognising that Aenima is their best, though. ;)

but I can't think of a single truly great album this year.

Have you heard that Boris album? I reckon it's right up your proverbial alley.

This overall was a pretty weak year, i'll agree, though...probably the weakest of the decade so far.

How could it not be? It has Die Eier von Satan on it! :p

But seriously, I've been listening to Aenima a fair bit recently (ever since I saw them at the start of this month, actually), and Stinkfist, Eulogy, Forty Six & Two, and Hooker With A Penis are quite possibly the four best songs Tool have ever recorded.

No, I've not heard it. I've heard Altar (their collaboration with Sunn O)))) (that's just confusing, having to put the extra ) in...), and that's pretty cool, so I'll take a look (listen).

Next year will make up for it - Metallica are releasing a new album, and they say (I think it was Lars Ulrich who said it) that it's very heavily influenced by Master of Puppets... :D

Hmm...Yeah, I could agree with that. Forty Six & Two is my personal favourite.

I haven't heard Altar yet (in truth i've only heard three Boris albums, and they have a lot), so I can't really say if they're at all similar, but I would expect that being a Sunn collaboration it was mostly their dronier stuff. They're a hugely diverse band, bouncing between drone, doom metal, punk, post-rock, and stoner rock without a second thought. Pink could claim to be all of those things at once, and for some bizarre reason, it actually works...which is why I find it so cool.

Next year will make up for it - Metallica are releasing a new album, and they say (I think it was Lars Ulrich who said it) that it's very heavily influenced by Master of Puppets... :D

I never really got into Metallica all that much anyway, though. I mean, they have talent...or...did have talent, but I never really felt anything special about them.

If you like the sound of cabaret punk, you'll like 'em.

Meh, i'm open to anything at least once.

the tracks on the site are quite good, but i don't think it can be as good as orchestra of bubbles (http://www.orchestra-of-bubbles.com/) from ellen allien and apparat, wich is kind of in the same style. they were better live too imo.

Top 5 albums that came out this year that have hit me hard

-I'm quite liking Kezia by Protest the Hero. Very complex, nice original sound, and still packed full with energy, passion and tunes.
-Oh, and II by Billy Talent is absolutely killer.
-Inhuman Rampage by Dragonforce is just insane metal fun.
-And Come Clarity by In Flames is brutal yet melodic, and signals a return to form after a not-brilliant last album.
-The Sufferer and the Witness by Rise Against also had me hooked with its passion and melodies, and depth on lyrics.

Of the five, I think the one with the most air time on my stereo/MD player/PC has to be Dragonforce

And though I've heard good things, I still haven't listened to Yes, Virginia by Dresden Dolls. Have their first album, got their second one for a friend's birthday, and she loves it. I consider it somewhat forward to ask if I can copy it off her :p
