I had to put down my dog

After 12 years of companionship, I had to put down my dog yesterday. She was so old and because she had a stroke, she couldn't get up, couldn't walk, and pretty much was not able to live as a dog should. The ride back from the vet's office with her body in the car was a long ride.:(

We buried her at the base of a tree that was named for a man who had died of cancer a few years ago. From the spot you can see the house, yard, and pool, even though it's about a mile away from the house. Buried about 2 feet away is a ferret that was owned by the man who the tree was named after, So now my dog will forever be chasing a ferret....

Im very sorry about the loss of your dog.

I had a a cat that I have had for a very long time die not too long ago. She was a grouchy old thing, but very affectionate to the people she trusted. Shortly before she got sick, we got a new kitten. They didnt get along very well and I sometimes think the kitten might have deteriorated her health.

Can't say the same about the ferret!

Maybe their best buds now and keep each warm on cold nights?

Who knows.

Dude, he was owned by an NSGer. He's probably breathing hellfire on angelic kittens.

So yes, a very happy dog spirit indeed. :D

Pandora was a grouch with other cats and was totally disgusted everytime I got a new kitten. She suffered through more than a dozen new kittens before she called it quits. It helped that whoever she got in a disagreement with it was always officially their fault.

We had to have our dog put down a couple of weeks ago and he was nearly sixteen. I'm only eighteen so I can't even remember a time before we had him; the house feels so empty now he's gone.

It does get better overtime. My fiance went crazy and left about a year ago. I can say that I am doing much, much better today than I was a year ago. God and time heal much.

I have a picture of myself and Annie before we went to the Vet's office. I'll post it when I can get hosted someplace. Imageshack doesn't support .png files even though the site says they do.

I lost my dog this past spring... and it's amazing how much it still hurts, sometimes. He slept under the blankets with me every night. He was my baby, my companion... it's hard. It really is hard, and some days are bad, but it does get better.

Hate to sound mean, but the sooner you get a new dog the faster the wound heals. I know for me that worked as my old dog died and we did not get a new for two years and I was sad for a lot more without a dog to spoil and love.:p

That sucks.

I lost a dog last year virtually overnight...he got bloat...and a 3am trip to the vet hospital couldn't save him. I can hardly think of a more unpleasant way to watch a pet die....so the memory of what it's like to lose a loved pet is all-too-fresh in my mind. My sympathies. :(

Each time you lose a beloved pet is unique. I lost two this year (age 11 each), and I still miss them as terribly as my dear cocker, dead these 12 years.

Hate to sound mean, but the sooner you get a new dog the faster the wound heals.
I've got to agree with this. Some might say that getting a new pet quickly diminishes the value of the other pet, by implying he's replaceable. Fact is, there is nothing your old dog wanted more in life than to see you happy. S/he lived for that, and you know it. Refraining from getting a new pet only punishes you, by keeping that new love and happiness out of your life.
