The travesty of letting women leave the kitchen.

It seems that Cancer Research UK has funded a study which believes that doing 16+ hours of housework can reduce the chance of getting breast cancer. So shame on these evil males of the patriarchal society who insist that women must economically and materially contribute to the economy at risk to their own health.

I'm really not sure to what degree you're being tongue in cheek here.

Wait until my mom sees this. I'd like to see her yell at me for not cleaning. "But mom, I'm saving you from breast cancer"

What's even worse is that we let them drive. They could get hurt in a car accident.

I can see a lot of opportunities for guilt-tripping here... :D

OHHHH a week! i was wondering where they found women who did that much housework in a day.

16 hours of housework a week leaves plenty of time for an outside job.

They funded a study which came to that conclusion. This is rather different then the "they funded a study which believes" thing. If they funded a study that had already made its decision what conclusion it was going to reach before doing its research, that'd be a bigger intellectual travesty than the conclusion itself.

As far as that goes, yeah, it's no surprise. Physical exercise cuts breast cancer risks, and exercise and housework go pretty much hand in hand. Odds are good that housework also cuts their exposure to other nasties like second-hand smoke at the workplace, which are also shown to have some association with breast cancer. I'd even go so far as to suggest a positive correlation between housework and breastfeeding, which is also shown to cut the risk of breast cancer.

It's odd that you assume (a) this study's conclusions are inherently sexist rather than just, y'know, blatantly obvious, (b) that economic goods must be pursued above all others, or (c) that those women who do stay at home do so because men force them to.

I'd actually posit that, given the level of demonization and verbal abuse to which homemakers are subject by feminists (a level of abuse that would get one arrested by the PC police if it were directed at blacks or Muslims or some other minority group), many are actually bullied into working when they'd rather stay home.

I remember reading an article once (don't remember where) that said that women were at higher risk for certain types of cancers because of the chemicals in cleaning liquid that we are exposed to more often than men are.

I chanced upon this item of news and the a humourous title for a thread about it popped into my head.

My position is that I believe in equal rights for men and women. I do not believe that women should have never been let out of the kitchen. Sorry for the double negative, but the double positive just sounded wrong.

I was being completely facetious.

yeah? last year I was watching the local news they had a story about how Teflon might cause cancer, and the doctor said "but only if you are exposed in liquid form, the Teflon on your pans is safe" and they cut to a commercial for this. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

I think this just goes to show that when women stick to their traditional roles, good things happen.
