Talking about your school online...

I'm just curious, could I get in trouble for what I posted online on a blog viewable by the public (see my sig) for instance, lying and admitting it and a staff member somehow coming accross the certain object?

And if you do talk about youtr school online, do you name it? Or the teachers? Or anything except vagueness?

anything you say on the internet should be assumed to be in public, admitting to anything in print in a public setting isn't the greatest plan for staying out of trouble.

I talk about work, but never mention the name of the place that I do work.

yes you can. its one of the idiocies of modern life.

even if you dont use your real name, the real name of the school, the real names of the people you talk about, it wont stop some asshole friend of yours from turning you in. if its something that you shouldnt be publishing in the newspaper, you can get in trouble for it.

if you talk about drinking and drug use, that great college you apply to will look you up and find out that youre an alcoholic doper and there goes your acceptance letter.

I once made a public blog about my school.... it's still around, but I'll not name it for privacy's sake.

If you're talking about trouble with the school you're defaming, then you can get suspended (though I'm not really sure, since I never got caught ;))

No, no, this time I have to resist the fluffles. I gave out my old middle school's name... I'm deleting it, I don't want stalkers.

Well I remember a craze with a site called "Rate Your Teachers" and the teachers in my school got incredibly angry, and some very upset about it. I think that you can get in trouble if you're caught. Or for that matter even if you insult somebody else in your school online and they find out you can get in trouble. There were several cases of online 'bullying'; i.e. people going on Bebo and insulting classmates. But if somebody puts themselves publically online then, to be honest they deserve anything they get. Now if somebody puts a fake and insulting page about you up, then that's plain mean.

I used to bitch about my school all the time online (thankfully I'm finished school) but seeing as I never named names or locations it could've been any school. But, yeah, you could get into real trouble if they know who you are.

You have to be careful about slandering someone, or exposing their private life without their permission.

You have less protection than a news reporter.

If it isn't something you feel comfortable shouting in front of a hometown crowd in person in broad daylight, you shouldn't post it.

Oh well,:( I'll give you a fluffle anyway, just because I'm such a nice person, requesting personal information:fluffle:

I would totally shout it in front of a crowd in my hometown- I'd run up and down the freakign sidewalks screaming it!

That is, if my town had sidewalks  4,633 people and no sidewalks!

Though I'm still deleting it.
