Figured since im back might as well start were i left off... with a nice novelty thread.

But on to topic...

Here is a thread dedicated to movies you have just recently seen in the theatres, or one that have just been released on DVD.

BTW NO SPOILERS UNLESS IN WHITE FONT WITH WARNING...

I just recently saw Eragon, and I must say I really enjoyed it .(althougth the dialog could have been much better, and it also could have been much longer)

does anyone have any opinions on it? or any other new releases for that matter?

you liked Eragon?

dear lord, what a pile of horseshit.

Did you read the book?

if you haven't, let me put it this way: the movie was made by someone who read the first chapter, the middle chapter, and the last chapter and absolutely nothing else.

they completely destroyed half the cast, left out two legs of their journey entirely, and gave major characters no more than three minutes of screen time.

that movie was unbelievably bad if you've read the book.

It was bearably bad (but horribly generic) if you hadn't read the book.

[edit] "unfortunate" is, I think, the best way to describe it.

what is it about?

Woman being unable to make babies, and they find one woman who's pregnant and have to protect her from raging mobs and the government and stuff like that. Search youtube for it.

it's such a brilliant book, well paced, with lovable characters and a great plot: everything the movie wasn't.

remember the fortune teller in the movie? the one who was (for no apparent reason) a supermodel wearing 50 pounds of sequins?

you'd never know it from the movie, but in the book she was a relatively major character. she was also plainspoken, humbly dressed and had a sharp wit and sarcastic humor. She reminded me of the overweight aunt who sits on the couch sipping wine at family christmas parties interjecting with snarky diologue and jokes that were almost too dirty for the kids to hear. do you remember the muppets? the ones who were the two old guys? she was like them.

instead, they completely remade her character (into the most generic fortune teller ever) and gave her thirty seconds of screen time.

ugh, Eragon was terrible.

I read Eragon and Eldest. The writing in Eragon was bit juvenile, but I forgave it because he was 16 when he started to write it. Eldest has much better writing.

But the movie was so god-awful it deserves to be burned and never seen again by anyone, ever.

Children of Men and The Good Shepard are on my must-see list for the near future.
