Do you think 5,000 US troops will be killed in Iraq when the US is finished doing whatever its doing there and pulls out?

Mebbe. Beats the hell out of even a single summer in Vietnam though.
Compared to other wars only 2,000 something (not sure how much) have died in 3years of combat.

Sure, why not. We broke it, and we're buying it with our blood.
If we stay, it could easily get to 5,000.

The poll lacks an "I don't really care" option. Oh, well...
I'm gonna wager at least 7,500.

So who's gonna organize the pool? And put me down for 8,400 while you're at it.

Involvement never ends in nation. I'm sorry, but you can't call it combat if the war is ended and its peacekeeping. Do not force your numbers on people when you do not realize that in other parts of the world US people die doing the same thing we are doing in Iraq. Surely, you do not call it combat either, now do you?

this is sort of a tangent, but if we are "low" on military troops to send to iraq, why do we keep planning to send more?
just a note: there are about 60,000 troops sitting in japan. just japan alone.

There's reason enough for that...

i assumed you meant "over-and-above the current death toll"
as in, a further 5000+ deaths
which still leaves my vote at "5000+"

You're only off by 50%... US KIAs in Iraq stand at 2999 according to the the latest figures (http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/ops/iraq_casualties.htm). Should top 3000 in the next couple of days.

That's a complicated question to answer. Basically brigades spend 1/3rd of their time in Iraq and 2/3rds of their time recovering and getting ready to go back. Surging troops means that that time will be cut back, leaving the troops less prepared.

About 50,000, but who's counting. ;)

21 000 wounded Usians...
Not enough to stop the dream...
Oil has a cost, you must respect that, thanks.

no not 5,000 more, just 5,000 total

yeah i agree that this war isn't nearly as bad as Viet Nam. I have around 10 friends over there and 2 family member there and their the only ones who can say how bad it is over there.

Indeed. 12 for 12, then? Must be pretty bad.
