A great game for playstation one. Who has it, who wants it, and who has played it.

I started selling a few games on Amazon and ran across prices on this game and it surprised me. Great game but almost 9 years old.

It's excellent, but you're better off finding the PC version, as its translation is far better (no more "This guy are sick."). Unless, of course, you don't like MIDI music, but then again... If you have a good sound card, the MIDI is almost as good as the original hardware synth soundtrack on the PS1 version.

Okay, time to stop ranting.

I'm going to go ahead and point out that the PC version only supports Glide for 3D acceleration and that although it comes with an excellent MIDI synthesizer, said synthesizer only installs under Windows98. For this and other old games, I keep a PII-400 with a Voodoo2 and SoundBlaster Awe64 running Windows98.

I've played perhaps the first half of it (I keep on getting distracted by newer games with fantastic graphics). It's an interesting game full of mystery and double crossing. And it's made me think long and hard a few times, which is good, because many games are just too easy. I bought it maybe 5 months ago and it came factory wrapped in good quality and I haven't had any problems with it (I'm using my PS2). What pushed me to buy it is the fact that I'd never played a Final Fantasy Game, it has a huge fan base, and the fact that it was such a land mark game. It took a few hours to get into, but once I did I found a really vast world. I love the way that your choices affect the other characters and in some ways the story line in it. And there are many miny/side quests to keep you amused if you're stuck.

The best thing about VII is that you absolutely fall in love with the characters. I actually shed a tear at two points in the game. *hides in shame*

The music really helped though. Even though the dialogue is communicated through writing and not words you still get very involved. And then when something good happens you hear yourself going 'aww!' :D

One of the better FFs, the best being FFVI (best gameplay, tie with VII for best story, and the most epic), FFVII (gets boring at times, very interesting at others. it lacks... something, but is still quite epic) FFV (overall very enjoyable throughout), in that order. The gameplay becomes boring about halfway through, and the story (the best and main point) was the reason I finished it. I'm a bit wary of replaying it, but probably will, sooner or later.

I thought 1 & 6 were good. I didn't say the FF sames sucked, just that they get more hype and attention than they deserve.

I thought FFVII (the first, and only, Final Fantasy I've played) was incredibly dull and seriously not worth the effort.

It'd make a good film, perhaps, but it isn't a game. Fallout 1 & 2, System Shock 2, Deus Ex, Baldur's Gate, Defenders of Oasis, KotOR, Oblivion and even Neverwinter Nights are more fun.

The amount of hype has been increasing steadily over the span of the series. IMO, FFVII was the first overhyped one, though not all too badly, and the ones following it have been your average, mediocre RPGs, having little in the way of justification for the attention they have been given. I'd agree that the franchise as a whole is pretty overhyped, though it has a few true gems.

If you want one focusing mostly on that side, and don't mind it otherwise being somewhat simple and old-fashioned, I'd recommend playing FFV. FFVI is also good gameplay wise, and has a nice story as well. The last game in the FF-series before the balance tipped in favor of "movie-like", and one of the most impressive games made for the SNES.

I cannot disagree more with the "Overhyped" and "Dull" statements made earlier. This is truely one of the best games I've ever played (along with any games of the Metal Gear Solid Series, and KoTOR is good but not KoTOR II) Its not a brain-dead "oh theres bad guys lets shoot them and run through a place to shoot more bad guys" like halo. To get the true experience you have to play the entire story to truely appeciate it and complete all the side-quests for maximum entertainment. I've maxed out the clock and more mastering all the materia and just playing around (Chocobos!). Truely the best Final fantasy game followed by FFVI and FFIX

Ok, to add to my earlier comment I'm not directly opposing anyone of coarse its all a matter of opinion. It is of coarse a minority group that thinks FFVII is overrated this is definatly the first time i've heard of it. It is Top rated (in its time of coarse) in almost every gaming magizine and in some still is despite how old it is (unfourtunatly gaming magizines seem to forget about old games and how its would stack up to new games accounting for obvious limits in technology). And i do account for myself being in ther minority that Halo is a bad game.

Again excuse my bad english this is a post not a graded essay

I think it's the human vs. human element of the multiplayer where the Halo series finds it's strength.
Personally, I prefer the more strategic and tactical FPS titles myself.

I actually had the PC version of Final Fantasy VII. Always froze during the flashback Cid let us in on in Rocket Town. No exceptions, no ifs ands or buts. Never got past it. I played the PC version of VIII too. That one didn't freeze.

not sure how this is going to go down, but...

while FFVII is all right, and was pretty good given when it was made and so on, but...

it gets horribly over hyped and i fail to see why everyone likes it so much, but it wasn't bad. the plot goes missing part way through the last disc [all the ps1 Final Fantasy games had this issue, apparently] and the graphics are just... painful. well, not when i first played it, but then i got kind of spoiled by 10 :)

i haven't played any of the earlier FFs, mind, so that may have something to do with it.

i greatly enjoyed 8 [hint: most magic is better for charging stats than for casting], and personally i think it is rather Under-appreciated in terms of overall nifty-ness [though, admittedly, is probably not underrated on the technical side for it's time]

9... annoyed me. that's really all there is to it.

10, again, i enjoyed it a lot. 10 and 8 are the only ones i actually managed to both get to and defeate the final boss.

10-2... so very over hyped by people who like it... and so very over hyped by the people who hate it.

the game play is at least as good as 7 or 8, the graphics are at Least as good as 10, the music is pretty good [and the FMVs where the characters sing are ... very good, musically.]

never played 11, and 12 looks like it could fall into either the same category as 10/8 for me or the same category as 9... don't know.

13 looks promising :D

that's my opinion. for some reason most people i know either don't acknowledge or just outright dislike or hate 8, and seem to either be obsessive fans of 7, or decidedly committed to "9 is the best!"... or just not care about final fantasy, of course.

then there's my friend who seems to be a total Nintendo fan boy...

his opinion: final fantasy always sucked, always has, and always will, is out done graphically by anything on the x-box, and in terms of game play by anything on the wii or game cube.

one of many things he and i do not agree on. hehe.

err... my original point was on topic, but i seem to have lost it. oh well, these are my thoughts, anyway :)

perhaps the hype is over rated?

or people over estimate how much it has been over-rated by?

or, perhaps simply "yeah, it's not as good as the hype, but it's not as crap as people think" ?

assuming at least one of those is right, i think most people reading this got the point :)

I'm just so glad to hear that there are other sane people out there that think halo is over rated. I guess anyone around me is drowned out by dumb meat head jocks that just so happened to stumble upon a non sports based game and got sucked in or incredibly devoted Microsoft and media swayed nerds that just fall in love with it because it seems to be the only decent FPS multiplayer since goldeneye for N64 (4 players without multi-tap and a dencent graphic, relitivly fast paced gameplay)

Huh? Wha!? WHAT!!?

Concerning The Series: If you can come up with a series that has had better plots (not touching the sequels in anyway, minus X-2), innovative gameplay (changing almost everything after every game), and an overall better RPG than go ahead and do so.

Concerning FFVII: When was the last time you cried during a movie let alone a video game. 'nuff said there.

Concerning Halo: You hate it because you suck at it. Go back to Nobstrike or Half Gripe II where it's on permanant easy mode.

Concerning FFVIII: Squall = Emo. Triple Triad alone made it an enjoyable game though.

I stopped at IX, which was fun, but what the f$#% was the storyline again?
