American Imperialism

America is the strongest nation on earth is it not; yet every other superpower (whether its still around or not, such as the former British Empire ) has had a very large empire. Sure America has several territories, but you cant really call it an empire. If we wanted we could extend American reach up north through canada and south through south america and the carribean. Why have we not done this, it cant be fear of retaliation from other nations ( after all we are the strongest in world ) its the goverment trying to be moral. and imposing your will on other people would seem immoral to some people.

Ok..

Sure, we could topple a bunch of weak states and plant the flag, but there's no point to that in a global economy. We've got plenty of economic "territory" you don't even notice until you're there.

AIDS ?

Well, I was looking for imperialism, but I'll give you that. That made it rather crappy too.

i think you are confusing 'classic' imperialism (imperialism that uses military superiority) with neocolonialism (wich uses economic means to supress other nations)

The contention is that governments have aimed to control other nations through indirect means; that in lieu of direct military-political control, neocolonialist powers employ economic, financial, and trade policies to dominate less powerful countries. Those who subscribe to the concept maintain this amounts to a de facto control over targeted nations

i also wouldn't say that america doesn't have to fear retaliations. it needs other nations for import/export, and since it can't even control iraq, i doubt that it could control a larger nation.

True enough...though if we went back to methods used as recently as the British Empire, we certainly could.

Be thankful we don't. ;)

-_- Just because you apparently have the strongest miltary in the world doesn't mean that you know how to use it. Also, while you could technically defeat every army in the world, if enough powerful countries retaliated you'd have a problem.
